ThasFace's frame looks great! I know he will love it.

Someday, I will build mine. ( stinking knee that keeps me off the bike).

But for now, I have a GREAT piece of wall art!

I say build it and keep it in sight so that you can stay motivated to get that knee healthy. Also, we need pictures ASAP.

    Hi Tom!

What about the Merlin Cr Works Frame? I own it since 2008 and now that I have this opportunity I want to ask you something about the frame, considering that every frame comes with a sticker that claims "geometry by Tom Kellogg".

    Thanks a lot!

Looks great! And best of luck with the knee; that bike needs some punishment.

Guys...what's the mast topper going to be? Ritchey like the others? Thas...I know firsthand that your old frame is fairly high-functioning as a race style bike. What motivated the move to a new one? More rigid? ISP? Just sumpthin' new?

    Looks cool...enjoying this thread.

Mast topper will be Ritchey with some setback, and will be spec'd to accommodate the dumb carbon rails that I have on the new saddle I just ordered.

As for my motivation, it was pretty much all about a fit issue that I created by dropping weight/increasing fitness. When I first got the bike I was fresh out of grad school and it had been a few years since I had done much other than study and drown my hate for grad school in beer, so I was in the process of shaking off the 70 (yes, 70, it was gross) pounds I had gained since tearing my ACL before grad school started up. TK designed the frame to include lots of room for me to grow into, but it ended up not being enough for the ridiculously huge change in my position. With TT's help, I went from running 4cm of spacer under a 110mm/-8deg stem with a 1cm ht extension, to a 130mm/-10deg stem with no spacers and no ht extension (had it cut down by Merlin). Dramatic increase in drop/reach, I think, but it still wasn't enough since I wanted to get another cm of drop. In order to do that, however, I would have needed to use a -17 stem... and that would have looked wonky with the sloping tt.... so I decided that I had outgrown the frame and started making moves.

Anyway, the fit issue convinced me to get going on making a new frameset happen, but the differences in design came from changes in taste and not a perceived lack of anything in the first frame. The ISP is probably not much more than a style choice, but I have myself convinced that ISP's offer a more 'connected' road feel (this from my gaulzetti experience); also, I like the extra real-estate for painting offered by the ISP. The increase in stiffness isn't really necessary since I'm not a sprint monster or anything like that, but I have learned to prefer a really stout ride (insert joke here), so the increase in stiffness seemed to make sense. Both the ISP and the stiffness++ choices won't make me any faster, but they should enhance general awesomeness for me based on my current likes.

Also, something new is usually a nice thing, and I always look forward to working with TK.

I suspect that it'll be one of the Ritchey 1-bolt's with 25mm of setback.
