I ran across this thread and thought I'd get a couple pics up here.

We'll see if Paul knows who's bikes the two older two are! They were raced extensively back in the mid to late-90's in Northern California and actually still have some of that original dirt on them! The blue paint (or powder coat) is nearly translucent so you can see the stack of dimes along the gussets and joints. The school bus yellow was apparently the team bike color from way back. I think it's one of my favorite bike colors ever.

The Euro CX Team Tig is mine from I think 2005 or so and it's been raced in CX, local crits and circuit races. It's very different from the older bikes which are very light and flexible - nowadays they would be thought of as completely unrideable but, I can say from the one ride I did on the yellow bike that they fly - all that flex just makes them float over rough terrain! They have horizontal top tubes as well which makes a big front triangle that is great for throwing onto your shoulder. You can see on the fork tips of the blue bike that it appears he trimmed them way back.

The yellow one has horizontal dropouts and really long chainstays.

    Enjoy!

lobster_29er.jpg Got this thing built up and was able to get a quick ride in before the snow hit here in the CO mountains. Once again, Paul knocked it out of the park with this one! Can't wait to get some real miles on 'er this Spring.

Just got a phone call with some magic words.

"Hi, it's Paul, I'm about to get started on your frame, but I've got a couple questions before I get started."

I remember when I got that call. The next step is to start checking his blog every day to see when he posts it pre-paint.

You mean what I've already been doing the last six months since I sent the deposit in? I'm expecting to triple the obsessiveness.

Well that didn't take long. The frame is built minus some holes to be drilled. It does exist, if Facebook is any guide.

Yeah, when he says ready to build, he means ready to build. That looks awesome.

3.8 lbs. So nearly half my MAX frames weight and shaves a fair bit off my DS.

Told Paul I didnt care so Mich about weight as a stiff, durable, nice riding frame. Figured with aluminum, it was going to be way lighter regardless.

Interesting, mine is 3.1 pounds for a larger frame. There is quite a bit of difference between tubesets in aluminum it looks like.

Your Max frame is 7.6 pounds

I don't have that svelte climbers body you do. Had to go with good ol' 7005. Not that fancy space-age stuff you're using.

Man, I'm no climber but thanks I believe my tubeset is 7005 as well, just thinner. Your

You went with that fancy Deda Adversa stuff though, right? I'll need to pick Paul's brain about it when we chat next, but it seems he looked at the weight I listed on the form and decided "Ah, hell with it" and just grabbed the biggest chainstays he could find in the tubing box. Seems the tubing mix he had in mind for me is more the beefiest 7005 stuff he could find.

Not that I'm complaining. I told him weight was a secondary concern to ride quality and stiffness. The fact its coming out lighter than my steel frames is just a nice bonus. I'm hoping this'll put more of my meager watts to ground so I can hang on to your wheel up Alpine Dam or Seven Sisters. Or at least hold on a bit longer than the first corner when you start your Pantani impression.
