How have you enjoyed it so far?

I have enjoyed it over the past year and enjoy it more with each passing ride. I think what makes it special is not only the craftsmanship but the fit.

    Default Ols Sachs

Here are a few basement snaps of my antique RS. It rained all Thanksgiving so no good sunlight picture taking opportunities.

I am owner #2, I believe it was originally built for Ron M. who owned the Rainbow Bike Shop in Willimantic CT. I came into this frame while racing juniors. Probably 14 or 15 years old at the time (me, not the bike). Although it is about 2 inches too big for me, I raced it for 4-5 more years.

The original color was brown with yellow fill-ins. The light blue was sprayed by Peter Weigle sometime around 1985. Peter also added some braze-ons and we moved the shift cable guides from above to below the BB shell.

The bike has lived in my dad's basement in Connecticut for about 20 years and for a while he raided it for parts. It had super record but has been reduced to a combination of Superbe, GS, old Neuvo. The SL pedals were taken off years ago when I wanted to take it for a spin during a visit and couldn't find my slot cleat Sidis. Race wheels were GP4 / Record tubbies which got gifted to a friend a couple decades ago. Those clinchers are just on to hold the bike up.

Even though it doesn't fit I have always been attached this bike. It was my first really good bicycle and I've only ridden frames from American builders since. My current quandry is if I should repaint it and hang it on a wall (how many frames from that era had two masters work on 'em?) or swap it with someone for a vintage frame I could build up in my size and actually ride.

Beautiful, I so have been tempted to buy bikes too big for me just because I want them.

I think you convinced me it can be a good idea.

Cool. You got to love that Campy headset... Interesting cable routing too.

    Default New wheels

I've been riding my new wheelset on the RS for 2 weeks now.. Ambrosio/CX Ray/Record/Veloflex Roubaix 24mm. With these wheels and this bike it feels that someone is putting a red carpet right before your front wheel.

    The perfect match.

    Default Sachs Cross

Former team bike I purchased this spring from Richard and then sent to Joe Bell for a repaint. I raced it in my first cross race this fall and took 3rd despite crashing in the 1st lap (and really sucking at clipping in after barriers).

Put the street tires back on it today so I can tackle some of the dirt/gravel roads around here...

I am really, really glad I bought this one....thanks Richard!

Yeah....a few days earlier and that would have made "the most memorable bikes of 2009" thread. Congratulations!

Shit that's cool. I would have never thought about that scheme. It works.

Wow. So... Vanillafied. Interesting. I like. Wonder what ATMO thinks?
