Because the spokes have to transmit torque to the rim to enable braking, just like a drive wheel. Radial lacing can't do this.

Great view. Saw that church and immediately thought of Montreal.

Is there a crack in the frame or something?

Nope. I've just had it in the rotation for a long time and with a couple other bikes on the way this year it's time to make room.

Starting to get to know my new-to-me Chebacco LE..

Very impressed with it so far and think this one is going to be a keeper at least through this gravel season -- someday I'll get a custom steel version done up just because -- for now though, enjoying the sweet ride and great handling.

A multi-year search for a used Z1 in a geometry that works for me yielded this 2006 build Z1. First ride today (commute to/from work) after picking it up last night from ShockTreatment, a master mechanic who never fails to build up a beautiful finished product!

Record 11 and de-badged Bora35 tubulars. Plus some DC landmarks in the background!

Gotta love a Z1. What's the tyre clearance like on that?

Well they are Veloflex Carbons (23mm) on there now, and I'll likely replace them with Arenbergs at some point and there's plenty of room for 25s. I never ride larger than that, so no problems for me ;-)

I like Parlee's no-finish finishes on their bikes.
