After years of daydreaming; my first ground-up build. Most of the pieces & parts were bought on budget (eBay, craigslist, etc.) which left room for splurging on paint and leather. Much thanks to Noah & Suzanne of Velocolour in Toronto for the paint magic and Carson Leh in Austin for the leather craftsmanship.

Nice bike! How are you liking that saddle? I thought they were hideous when they first came out but the look is growing on me. It's like a saddle from the future. I'm a big fan of the raw finish Parlee and loved how my Z5 rode.

totally cool bike, that raw carbon looks amazing. Saw one of these in person at Velosmith in Wilmette, IL and the carbon really pops in the sunlight. I would love a wax-finished bike, totally easy to deal with. I hope you ot a deal because I couldn't believe the price when I asked . . .

Thanks, yes I think I got a deal, I mean it's still expensive but since then I didn't see any other at a lower price tag (1500$ frame fork + CK headset)

You'll want to use 303 Aerospace Protectant. You can buy it most any autoparts store.

Borrowed stem to try out a slightly different fit. Still have adjustments to make. But she's still the one as they sang...

Yes, that qualifies as a screamin' deal in my book.

Sorry I skipped your question !
Saddles are a very subjective thing, and the Volta seems to be the perfect match for me. The round shape is very pleasant and nothing obstructs when pedalling, which was the case with the prologo zero, a flat platform saddle. The padding is soft and I even use one on my commuter bike, with jeans and no pain at all !

Bike commute on the Seven, shop ride on Parlee, and back home on the Seven. It's a thing.

This frameset landed today for an eTap feature and review:

God love how quick eTap builds are to pull together...

Can't wait to take it for a proper spin. I would never consider myself a Weight Weenie, but at 6.6kg without trying too hard, it feels damn spritely! I'm reminded how nice it can feel to be on a light bike I have to say.

Posted up my newest FF and felt like it was a crime that I didn't post my new Parlee Build from last year so figured it was a twofer day.

This was one of the newer Parlee Altum disc builds. Worked on with Blake B at Signature Cycles NYC. I only started riding semi seriously three years ago, re-introduced to the art by my newly minted manager at the Weather Channel - an ace guy named Curt Hecht . When I put the bike together I didn't know Curt was unwell and it was meant as an homage to the company I was at when I got back into cycling as well to to him and to the weather itself for all its influence on how we think of our riding experiences.

The overall design was done inhouse by a graphics designer and then Parlee worked to make it the gorgeous application it now is on the bike. As you can see, lots of wild weather banding and the actual icons from the Weather Channel Android set - snowflakes and suns etc. The ridefx on the fork was a take on one of the primary products I built when I got to TWC - a product called WeatherFX which was essentially a predictive analytics platform that figured out all the many ways in which weather affects each of us and builds actions around it. That part of the company was sold to IBM a year ago.

Very soon after the bike came together, Curt passed of lung cancer. it came and went very quickly. There was a deep irony to this. Curt rode 10k miles/year on average whilst also traveling like 150-200 days and had been for at least 25 years. He never touch a cigarette and didn't really drink either, knowing he'd be on his bike the next morning - every morning. He was a man of deep discipline and was a fantastic mentor and teacher. He will be sorely missed.

After Curt passed, I went back to Parlee and because they also knew him (Curt rode for the Weather Channel team in Chicago - he's also the reason why there are weather channel sponsored teams there and in NYC) they quickly repainted my fork to reflect my desire to have Curt ride with him going forward. Instagram

The Altum is a fantastic bike. My second Parlee after Curt first got me to pick up a used z5 (which I had custom painted) Instagram which is such a special ride as well. It will always have a special place in my heart for all the reasons listed above but is also just a fantastic go fast bike for a go slow rider in general.

    Vikram,

Thanks for the post. Well done homage to your friend. Your good taste extends past bikes.

Enjoying riding this - glamour shots were done yesterday for an eTap review piece and eventual bike review (this isn't one of them):

Lovely bike, but I'm nowhere near as wowed by it as I expected to be, in all honesty. I'm going to swap out the 35mm bar and stem as I think they're too stiff and could be hampering the comfort of the front end - will be interesting to see if that changes anything.
