NAHBS 2013: I had the pleasure of picking up a bike at the show. It was more a matter of coincidence, as my buddy Kohlboto and I had planned the trip long before I ever spoke to Mike about a show bike.

Mike is about as nice a person as you could imagine, and his work is absolutely top-notch. I loved the fact that any time we were speaking, Mike was tinkering away in the background, which only reinforces his reputation as a builder's builder - he'd rather make bikes than promote them.

Anyways, this bike was lumped in with the many other disc braked CX bikes as being unnecessary and overkill, but Mike delivered exactly what I wanted. I love it. I rode it today for the first time and immediately found the fit and manners to be dead-on.

It was a short ride (unfortunately), but included hitting some seriously muddy (think swampy) trails in the PNW. At times, my shoes were submerged under water as I completed my pedal stroke - it was comical. Anyways, the bike handled very nicely and exactly as predicted. It handled fairly nicely on the road as well.

As I pointed this shiny, pristine bike onto the trailhead, I kind of cringed, thinking of how pretty it was and how dirty it was about to get, but it was kind of cathartic. pedalling through 15cm of standing water and mud initiated this bike appropriately and got it used to the types of rides I hope to be taking it on regularly for many, many years to come.

    Thanks Mike D.

That DeSalvo cross or dirt road is about as good as it gets. Did you go with 130 or 135mm rear spacing?

Very jealous-- I'm still working on rusting out a steel bike for that kind of duty.

Thanks. I went with 135mm spacing. It seems universally accepted by those in the know that 130mm disc hubs are dead. Long live 135mm! One treat from NAHBS was that Mike was able to claim a pair of R45 disc Campy hubs before they hit the market (they are out officially in another month or so, I believe).

It was a splurge, but this is a bike I plan to keep for a long time, so I went balls out ;)

Well, I stuck with my old Aliante and a 15 yr old pair of Time ATACs, so I had to cheap out somewhere . . . .

that looks like a fun bike. i enjoy my desalvo that fits wider tires -- i take it out on the katy trail. mike builds fine frames.

cpg did the stem -- he is the man.

mine has those old fashioned 57mm caliper brakes, though:)

One of these days I'm going to get tired of maintaining a fleet and just get something like that. I'm waiting until all this road disc standard stuff shakes out though. Hot bike.

Yes, receiving this bike has got me to thinking that I want to sell two other bikes. All I need is a road bike, an allroad bike and a commuter bike.

Thanks for the compliments. I rode this weekend and it was a blast. It was a gorgeous, sunny Saturday so I rode in shorts. I found some mud to play in, in spite of the sunny weather.

This must mean I'm getting close in the queue as Mike said there were two Ti frames in front of me...

Here is my desalvo. Been riding it since march. Cross/travel bike dressed up for the road. Mike was great to work with and the bike is awesome.

Bumping this back up from page 8!

Repainted my DeSalvo and put some new brakes and used carbon tubulars on to really freshen it up. Still on the same belt from 2011. Pretty cool.

Excellent. I'm a big fan. I take it you like the belt drive? I've always found it intriguing, but have never ridden one.

4th season racing on the same belt. No lube, less weight, and never loses tension. There is nothing to not like about it except for when I race against the geared guys ;)

Two more photos to show off the colors

Looks like Mike has a new logo. Looks great. I wonder if the new badge will retro fit my 10th Anniversary frame?

Still perfect. Still ridden as much as possible, but not as much as I'd like. She might deserve some new wheels or an updated groupset soon but I'll never part with this frame. My only regret is not having Mike build a matching steel fork.... Maybe in a few years I can get a 20th anniversary frame to match?
