I have heard nothing but good things from Landshark owners and would love to get my hands on a nice fillet brazed road shark one of these days, with one of those crazy cosmic color ways!

Not if we're going off road. If we are off-roading, I'll be on a ti Spectrum. If trails are mucky and we stay on the road, sure, I'll bring this Shark. I'm also happy to take requests for the bike I ride: modern steel; vintage steel; domestic steel; lugged or fillet brazed; foreign steel; or ti. (I hope I don't sound like a jerk there. I'm not a collector, I'm a hoarder.)

An entire year without a picture of a Landshark. That is beyond sad.

Pic from about 1992 or 93. I was young enough and stupid enough to not wear a helmet. Back then they barely had vests, so the shop I worked in I purchased a XL Motorola jersey and cut the sleeves - presto vest or as some call it 'gilet.' Dig the 42x21, a little of the quill stem showing and a fist full of post - it's how we rolled back then.

That bike rocked and John was an incredible builder and is just such a stellar guy. For sure an iconoclast who paved the way for many american builders.

    Hi Folks

Wanted to get your thoughts on repainting my new (to me) Landshark frame and fork. It was built in 2007/8 and with the fork and lugs, has a great classic look. It will need to be repainted as I am having fender mounts brazed on.

For reference, I am struggling between staying with a classic look and doing something more eye catching to honor John's reputation. I am planning to build it up with black Hed Belgium + wheels and a dark grey DA 9000 group.

    Thanks!Landshark 1.jpgLandshark 2.jpgLandshark 3.jpgLandshark 4.jpg

Just to be super clear- I am going to repaint the frame above, and am looking for thoughts on whether I should stay classic, like it is now, or something much more wild.

I would love to get some ideas from folks on the forum as to what the new paint job should be.

    Thanks!

Have you thought about asking John if he'd repaint it? I think a wild new paint job would be great if it came from the man himself. If not, I'd stick to classic.

Might as well see if Mr. Slawta will do the fender mounts as well as the repaint. One-stop refurbishing.

I agree with Matt. Only John has t he artistic sense to paint a frame which reflects his vision and style. Anybody else's interpretation would likely obviously be off-mark.

True, he probably painted the panels on the original frame and many painters can handle that basic task. So if Slawta won't do the deed then contract someone else and keep it classic, or require they drop some acid first if they are planning a real Land Shark-esque finish.
