Yes, it is. There are a few WWII gun emplacements around the area to protect Wellington harbour, and although the location for this one is a little strange I assumed it was the same era. Turns out it was built in 1885 with fear of NZ going to war with Russia! Not to be mean to little-ol New Zealand but the population in 1885 must have been about 125 sheep farmers and while I admire their bravery I'm not sure they'd have stood up to Russia very well.

We'll ride up there when you visit :-D

Solid, solid bike. Nothing better than raw titanium for getting dirty.

Ye Olde CJ SS... damn, I miss this bike.

Always loved the Fuoco chainstays on early CJs.
    Flipflop hub.
    Easton Hyperlite bars, cut narrow.
    Shimano DX two-finger lever.
Superbe Pro pedals (might still have these somewhere).
Phil BB installed by Sheldon Brown on a slow day one Feb in the early oughts.
Also had a paint-matched long stem and bullhorn bars...

So you know you may have a problem when you are compelled to build an entire bike around a set of hubs...

Gary Smith was kind enough to offer up a couple sets of the limited edition classic mtn hubs in purple along with the matching headset and BB that were used in some special throw back full rigid mountain bikes a few years back.

Rather than build another full on mtn bike, I decided to combine the attributes of a cross bike with a custom segmented steel fork built by Chris Igleheart. Chris Dornbach was the ace in helping me with the frame design which came out perfectly and fits like a glove. A committment had to be made for the choice of flat bars vs. road bars, and I wanted this to handle everything from light trails to gravel roads to cross pit bike. The IF paint shop crew came up with the striking black/white layout with hot lime accents to compliment the purple bits.

After a few seasons of cross racing and riding road bikes on gnarly terrain, a full mtn bike with 2 inch tires just feels like overkill most of the time. Fun, but not something I'd ride much.

Clearance for up to a 45mm tire, fender mounts, disc brakes. Go anywhere. Might even switch out to a halo-style bar for some more hand positions when I get a little more scratch, but so far I'm digging it.

Ooof. That's pretty nice. Throw a 130 stem on it and call it a day. I wish it was the Vanilla shake color w/ script logo though. Army green is always a good color though. I want to see the real photos!

Been enjoying riding this and not taking pics, so a couple from earlier this year.
Just back from a few days of riding up north, mostly back / gravel roads. Great riding.

Which one is not like the others?

Would probably sell a coupled cx bike before I'd sell this. The IF is really versatile and rides great.

When I ride this bike with only a few dabs (mostly on the climbs) I feel good- when I have no dabs on the climbs I feel great.
This bike is more about what I can accomplish, than what I can not- accomplishments seem greater on the smallest level.

    Blue bikes forever.

I just finished building this up. I had a Serotta Odile 26er for 11 years - loved it, still ride it and love it. I switched to a carbon 29er last year and loved the speed of the bigger wheels and the lightness (16.2 lbs). An opportunity arose to get a Deluxe Ti in my size. It's like my Serotta and 29er carbon bike had a baby and out came this bike.

    18-ish lbs.
    IF Deluxe Ti 29er
    Whiskey No.7 straight carbon fork
    CK headset
    Rotor Ceramic BB BSA30
Race Face Next SL cranks and 34t ring
XX1 rear derailleur, cassette, shifter and chain
Formula R1 Racing brakes, KCNC rotors
    Enve seatpost
    Ritchey Superlogic stem
    Easton EC70 flat bar
    Crank Brothers Eggbeater 3Ti
    Specialized Romin saddle

    Dream ride.
