Just back from maiden voyage. This bike wasn't happy with just a ride around the block, so an hour-ten and nippy toes later -- WOW. Hampco knocked it out of the park -- again.

Smooooooth over crappy pavement (I did stop to take the tire pressure down a hair since I'm 25 lbs lighter than my last ride on tubulars in the fall). Front end doesn't move a micron when I stand up and put my full 178 maximum watts into it. Push on the pedals on the flats, and nothing on the bottom moves either --the power instantly goes through the PF30 BB and those fat chainstays and the bike just surges. Goes straight when I want to straight, goes where I point it when I don't.

Fit? Didn't even think about after one slight saddle tilt adjustment. It's just there.

Steve, Max and the Hampco crew -- chapeau!

Oh, and DarrenCT -- I have a winter bike just like yours!

Merci danke. Can't we all just get along?:)

And the cinghiale is Italian, and the phrasing French.... Let's see, I need some Dutch in there somewhere, and maybe even a hint of Danish or Swiss....

hey, it's v1! You can recable it for me when you come to town. Should be ready for new bar/tape by then. We can either retape and go to the bar, or go to the bar and then retape.

Very nice teleguy. Cool to see you had those ENVE decals cut.
Did you manage to apply them right in one go?

Well, there you have your piece of Dutch influence on the bike ;)

btw. Are those temporary bars? What are you planning to put on?

Thanks, Indecs! I did cut them into two pieces to apply.

Bars are keepers - at least until something else piques my interest:). These Salsa Road Pro Large have a nice curve for me. 76 reach, 134 drop. I need to adjust the angle a hair and move one lever a bit but otherwise good to go.

Back to white carpet and drapes as the new spring wardrobe?

Does one need to do the Ballers ride for their bike to warrant a Ballers sticker? Or does having a sibling to a DarrenCT bike qualify?

PM ElvisMerkx or TooTall to get a sticker. You just have to have a baller bike!

Can you say "fat chainstay?" And hooded dropouts too!

It's now about half built up. More pics when done, and a few more when it gets dirty, just for Darren....

Darren, can I get a scotch instead of a beer please?

Eat one live toad first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you all day.

Know there's been discussions around pf30, however I've heard good results with the parlee adapter for UT from folks who have used them for lots of miles. I've had a left SRAM crank arm come off 10 miles out and had a long one-legged drill back in. Saw folks who failed to check square taper bolts after reinstalling and ruined cranks. Any setup could have problems so I'm not uncomfortable with this setup on this particular frame.

Took the MAX all the way out to the Everglades yesterday.. epic 5.5 hour ride. Gravel, sand, marshy grass, and a good stretch of tarmac. Rolled through all of it like a boss. It's so much fun blowing by mtn bikes and cross bikes. Some pics.

Any interest in getting a Hampsten group ride together in SW Wisconsin this spring? I'm thinking a meet up in New Glarus or Spring Green or something for a Saturday afternoon ride + beers/dinner.

I'd love to, schedule permitting. Send me a PM and we can trade emails and connect. Also, had to look up your ride. I have your frame saved offline in my file of amazing looking bikes, subcategory Hampsten, sub-subcategory Max :)

Steve, saw you liked JonSnow's post. How about a trip back to the "old country" to visit and ride with us?

Oh, and 4Serottas is also a WI Hampsten guy....

Of course! I'm fat and slow, but other than that would be happy to ride together. Let's all PM to set it up.

Someday, Andy and I will both make it back - I'd love to do those old rides and have some modern Madison food and beer!
