I heard from the boss on Friday and I was told I could expect it to be finished this week.
My gut tells me that he might be out riding it.
From what I have seen the color is amazing, I will share as soon as I receive something.

    IL CAPO-

I reached out to Steve H. a few months back after deciding to sell my MAX. He was really helpful in trying to facilitate the sale and we got to chatting "Let me know if you want to do another frame, but what do you think you want?”. At that time I was really digging the modern steel race bikes I was seeing on the web like Speedvagen, Stelbel, The Cinelli Nemo etc; so I said "Let's do an all out modern steel race bike, no tall head tubes, no all day comfort, something nasty. Let’s have some fun with this”. I sent few pics of examples over and waited.
Steve was down to work completely outside of the box and start from a blank canvas. He came up with a lot of great options and we discussed every tube in the build and how it would affect the ride/performance. After a few drawings it fell into place and we were pretty stoked with the result.
I really wanted this frame to be stiff and with no performance concessions made for comfort. More of a sprinter bike than a classics bike. So, the Columbus HSS tapered head tube with internal headset mated to a Futura fork. He suggested the HSS down tube as well because it's big and nasty. After this we decided to stick to round tubing so Life TT, ST, and Life AJ chain stays. We also decided on some massive 17mm seat stays, I'm not sure what tubes he chose but damn...
I sent the drawing from my aluminum race bike as a reference so this is a pretty aggressive geometry.

He decided to name it Il Capo (a nod to Andy, apparently his guides all call him “Il Capo”) and is going be offering it as a new Hampsten model.

I wanted red and House of Kolor Kandy Red was suggested.
I took a chance and asked for the Columbus logo on the seat tube and surprisingly it happened.

I sent my Chorus 10 speed group and bunch of carbon parts out and had the shifters rebuilt. After a nice pro build the bike came out looking amazing.
The color is stunning and the bike just looks perfect.
It’s been photographed, test ridden, poked, prodded, and ogled over the last week or so and it should be headed to me soon.

I want to thank Steve for letting me be so involved and for turning my crazy ideas into a reality.
The bike is exquisite and classy and has all the qualities we love about his builds.
It’s a departure from the usual fare but it still looks like a Hampsten.

The front end of this bike...it is just demanding to be thrashed!

Looking forward to a ride report!

80 mile shakedown ride in the books and the bike exceeded my expectations.
I’m mostly impressed by how light it rides and the way it handles.
It effortlessly carves up the road and is very reactive but not twitchy at all.
Under full power it accelerated immediately and I never felt the frame give.
It quickly transfers the power to the road and has a very nice immediacy to it.
I’m pretty much blown away and never knew a steel bike could perform like this.
    Home run!

That bike should be in the dictionary under "Modern Steel Race Bike"... I wonder how a 50ish cm would do.
