Steve calls it Terry's "Le Shopper". The rack will hold four six-packs, but I haven't tested the handling.

The handling improves as you lighten the load.....So start working on that Hop Czar.

Yes, but rigid is really important with racks. Handling can get really evil if the rack and load are twisting around. A bike like that deserves the best when it comes to racks. Have you ever dealt with Leah "The Rack Lady" Stargardter?

I'm familiar with her oeuvre, yes. The next Shopping bike we show, probably next week, will have a more substantial rack. But I still like the Flatbed.

If I wrote reviews for a bicycling magazine it would read something likethis:

Max Kullaway for Hampsten Cycles

Frame arrived this past Tuesday, and I built it up over the past couple of days in time to take it out on its maiden voyage this morning, 63 miles with fellow Salonista Brent. Even though it was a bright sunny and dry day, I wanted to give the fenders a test run and see how everything worked (it's my first fendered bike). I poached the old Dura-Ace group and wheels from my old bike. Steerer tube needs to be cut. I don't own a digital camera, so my sister (who's in town visiting) used her iPhone to snap a couple of pics and emailed them to me.

Steve has been absolutely amazing to work with and he and Max Kullaway and Martin Tweedy positively nailed the design and execution. One ride and I'm already in love with this bike. The ride was super smooth and responsive, and the fenders were rock solid.

Thanks, Jeff. Yup, Arundel cages, stainless steel. I was hoping that they'd match nicely and I think they do. They seem like a nice touch that helps to tie everything together.

Very very nice Mat. I especially like how the bike has replaced the fireplace mantel as the home centerpiece (as it should be).
