Steve calls it Terry's "Le Shopper". The rack will hold four six-packs, but I haven't tested the handling.
I fully support that bike, besides the terrible Paul front rack.
it's an awesome rack
just not, you know, overly rigid
That's such a layup. Must. not.
From the yard sale.
If I wrote reviews for a bicycling magazine it would read something likethis:
"The Hampsten Classic Max offers a phenomenal ride, with a balance of the drivetrain stiffness and efficiency that racers demand, with the comfort you would expect from a plush bike. The handling is balanced: Whether you're banging out a century, screaming through sweeping turns or sitting up in a pack, the Classic Max is composed and confident. I can think of no other bike that accelerates, climbs and sprints so well, yet feels so comfortable, pleasant and enjoyable to ride.
The Hampsten has an airy, ethereal ride, the Classic Max the kind of bike that, if you owned it, you would be happily let other people ride so they could know not just how good, but how great a bicycle can be."
But I don't, so all I can say is the bike rides like a dream, smooth and comfortable. This is the frame that my 215#'s has spent a lot of time and money searching for.
If anyone is on the fence about purchasing a Hampsten......buy one you won't regret it!
pretty sweet ride.
Whose the builder?
i see another hampsten in my future. steve is the bestest (tm)
Nice ride ... Looks like it would fit me perfectly. Also, I have the same saddle, gruppo, bars, and stem. Just sayin'
Frame arrived this past Tuesday, and I built it up over the past couple of days in time to take it out on its maiden voyage this morning, 63 miles with fellow Salonista Brent. Even though it was a bright sunny and dry day, I wanted to give the fenders a test run and see how everything worked (it's my first fendered bike). I poached the old Dura-Ace group and wheels from my old bike. Steerer tube needs to be cut. I don't own a digital camera, so my sister (who's in town visiting) used her iPhone to snap a couple of pics and emailed them to me.
Steve has been absolutely amazing to work with and he and Max Kullaway and Martin Tweedy positively nailed the design and execution. One ride and I'm already in love with this bike. The ride was super smooth and responsive, and the fenders were rock solid.
Nice, Mat! Love the fork, the fenders, the cages (Arundel?), & the 7800 group! Those Hampstens sure are clean looking.

Thanks, Jeff. Yup, Arundel cages, stainless steel. I was hoping that they'd match nicely and I think they do. They seem like a nice touch that helps to tie everything together.
