    Cold but sunny ride.

This area was destroyed by a huge fire in the summer of 2010... 150 acres of heather and forest went up in flames.

GP Ti chillin' out in the spare bedroom for the winter. Waiting for someone to throw on crap wheels and tires and drag out the trainer for a few months. Andy on Gavia poster just out of sight on wall...

The new bike is finished!!! And being investigated by the former newest member of the household. Hope to get a lot of miles on it--and better photos--soon!

    A little tease:

Did a shakedown ride today. I'll post a full picture when I put the new pedals on and fit the proper length valve stems so you guys don't crucify me.

Weather and travel have been getting in the way of bicycling, but am loving the new ride so far!

Bad pictures quality with cheap cellphone but incredible smooth ride in Kumamoto pref.
In the mood of Rapha festive 500, the pig and I visited Aso volcano and several shrines before the end of 16.

Late posting from last weekend. Went out looking for the road less traveled and I think I found it.

    KHG,

Like your style. Pictures are nice but I need details. What sent you to Hampco Towers? Type of riding?

I spent a couple years drooling over the Cinghiale tours, thinking I'd never be able to do them, as I was a relatively new cyclist still intimidated by gentle rises in the road. Sometime during the course of that, I found Hampsten bikes. Since I like the aesthetics of classic steel bikes, I started drooling over the bikes too. Then I signed up for the Dolomites/Alps tour (the epic freak out that was occasioned once I hit "send" on the registration form is another story), and loved it.

I did the Dolomites tour a second time, and that year there were quite a few people with Hampsten bikes on the tour. Every time I was passing/being passed and thought "man, that's a nice looking bike" it was someone on a Hampsten. So I started reading up on them a bit more, and it seemed like everybody who had one was over the moon about what an amazing bike they had.

I did the Dolomites tour a third time, this time seriously contemplating setting up an appointment with Steve. Even mentioned it to my husband a couple times. He stalled, talked about various expenses, urged fiscal responsibility, so I didn't call Steve. Unbeknownst to me, while we were in the Dolomites, my husband colluded with Andy to measure my bike, and had an email thread going with Andy and Steve about fit notes, etc. One day when we were out on a ride, he urged trying a "new way home" that happened to take us to Steve's garage, where there were plans already drawn up for a bike!

I do a fair amount of urban riding--commuting, errands--and recreational/weekend riding in the area. When it's the season for it, I like to get up in the mountains, and do event rides like RAMROD, STP, etc. And we're going back to the Dolomite/Alps this year!

The new ride has been a blast so far--I'm delighted!

^^^^ (one for each Dolomite trip) ... beyond jealous. That's the best story I've read in I can't recall how long.

Agree with happycamper. And somehow the fact that K is a 'girl' makes it that much cooler. K, remind your husband that he's a lucky guy, in case he happens to forget.

    Cheers.
