Alpha Q fender mounting
What brake mounting nut are you using with the Aplha Q-25. Tried a Sheldon fender nut but its not long enough. Could possibly thread the back side of a Ti long brake nut but haven't found a tap long enough to go from the brake side all the way through. Tried it the other way and managed to cross tap into the other threads. Any suggestion?

We modify the front Sheldon nut on the lathe by taking down the shoulder to about 5mm. It's an easy fix if you have the tooling - and a good excuse to buy a lathe if you don't have one already.

Modified Sheldon fender nuts
You would think in Charlotte NC with all the NASCAR shops that we would have machine shops out the wazoo, but no luck. If I buy the nuts from you guys will you mill them down to fit. Love your bikes, I have 2 custom Waterfords ( one I ran into the garage on top of the car) and a Lynskey Custom Audax that I have the Alpha Q for. It has Ti fender mounts on the brake bridge and chainstay bridge but I forgot the seat tube was over sized so I didn't spec the chainstays long enough to take more that a Conti 25mm with fenders. The bontager fork I have will take larger fenders and tires so I am thinking of have a new longer rear built and put on. Probably more troulbe than it is worth but the bike is just so smooth. The other answer is one of your bikes. Thanks for the info. WMH

Hampco installed Sheldon nut with carbon fork
This is a close-up of the Hampco front Sheldon nut installation on my Strada Bianca. I don't know if this installation uses a nut that was custom machined, but it does fit cleanly into the recessed portion of the fork and makes for a clean mounting of the fender tab without the large head of the fender nut sticking out.

Honjo Fenders
The Honjo Fenders on that Hampsten look great.
Do I want a set for my rain bike?
I have a bike with long reach brakes and a long reach wound-up so I have room.
Are the Honjos an upgrade over the Planet Bike Cascadia Freddy Fenders I already have?
Are they quieter than mine? The flaps rattle on mine.

The Honjos are quiet and work. If I really hit a hard bump, I get a slight noise, but actually less rattling than with plastic fenders. The Honjo struts are stiffer than those on Planet Bike and the fender is also a little stiffer. Steve mounted the front one down low and it provides good coverage without a flap. Full coverage plastic fenders work well in my experience, so the performance difference isn't that much.
If you have a nice bike, the Honjos look a lot classier than the plastic fenders and are a definite appearance upgrade.

They come undrilled and you make the holes wherever you think they should be.

Go to your local home improvement store and look for nylon washers. I used one as a spacer on the back of a reynolds fork in order to run a fender.

Honjos are longer than any other fender I know of, so they provide better protection against spray. They also wrap over the top of the tire better than most plastic fenders, and the stays have no internal braces that act as water dams, channeling water out the sides of the fender. They're also lighter than many plastic fenders -- for sure, lighter than the SKS, I don't know about the Cascadias. And, of course, they're better looking than any plastic fender (in my opinion). As for noise: dead silent.
