Related question: with the welded internal tube in place, is it pretty easy to replace cable and housing?

Very easy. The housing runs the full length and slides easily through the tube.

Thanks again, Tyler. One last question (please indulge me, as I'm very interested in your bikes): what do your ti and stainless frames weigh? In particular, frames with about a 58 cm top tube?

    Hey Tyler,
One last try (and I swear I'll stop bugging you): what do your ti and stainless frames weigh? In particular, frames with about a 58 cm top tube?

    Many thanks,

It really depends on a lot of factors. In general a frame around that size weighs about 3lbs (+/-.25lbs).

As you can probably tell, I'm a little ADHD when it comes to my projects! I have been a huge fan of 650B for the past few years and after briefly running this beast with that fitment a few months ago I've decided to run with it permanently. 650B x 2.0 fir perfectly, though I've already written the Firefly folks about the possibility of widening the chainstays to fit a 2.3" tire. At the moment, the 2.0s are perfect.

I have a couple of changes in the pipeline:

    • Several months ago I got on the list for the next batch of Groovy Hot Rod cranksets. I think they're slated to be completed next month, which would be cool
    • The fork will be replaced with a segmented version from Hunter Cycles. I really like their design and the arch they incorporate. I also think that will be ready sometime next month.
    • With all the cool anodizing coming out of the Firefly shop, I'd like to replace the decals with a creative design. Got some pretty col ideas up my sleeve....

Anyway, here's how it looks at the moment:

    Seriously.

Tyler, maybe you need to market a "MisterDangerPants" model...

My recently repaired stainless Firefly. Kind of liking the unfinished look, but will probably have it repainted in the winter. Just couldn't wait to get back on it.

This could also go in the Humble Frameworks section, as he did the repair, but I don't think there is one. I will from now on refer to this bike as the world's only Humblefly.IMAG0445.jpg

What happened such that it needed repairing?

Shit happens. Was racing in the rain, and crashed hard. Nobodies' fault but my own.

Looks like the old Cannondale colour schemes. Glad that you got it back on the road.

I had the pleasure of riding Jacobs new Firefly (No. 138 I recall him telling me) this morning. What a fantastic bike. Very close to my dimensions so was able to just ride it. With those wheels it felt very firm but not harsh and the front end, while a little bit higher than what I am use to, is fast but not unstable. Tipped into a few corners a little early till I started to get used to it. The welds are immaculate with just enough too let you know it’s done by hand. The guys at the local bike shop who see their fair share of bling reckon it’s the best welding they have ever seen. Not that that’s a be all and end all of the whole frame. I honestly cannot envisage being able to craft something so well finished. Amazing.
