If I was a normal-sized person and could have only one bike an MXL would be at the top of the list.

Color was called "Tutti Frutti" in the catalog.

Really nice looking ride there Manumai! Would love to hear you impressions and a short ride report comparing it to some of the other members of your collection. I've never owned a MX Leader and always wanted one so it would be great to hear about how it rides and have some perspective against another one of your frames as a reference point. Let us know if you have the time. Thanks!

Speaking of MXLs, anyone have definitive knowledge on history of versions with chrome headtube lugs? Link to good resource that would have this? (long shot I know.) tia

The definitive history is that Merckx production was deeply riddled with exceptions, one-offs, weird things, and curiosities. The likely scenario is that some head tube lugs arrived chromed in error and they were used to build bicycles!

have not put as many miles as I wanted on and still tweaking position a bit, having said that the craftmanship for a "mass produced" frame is pretty brilliant and very well executed
it's a heavy bike, mine is a 59cm size and with DA7800 group and some ok wheels the scale reads almost 22lb.
my freshly built Hampsten Max (similar tubing, but no lugs with a carbon fork) with similar components comes in at a tad over 18lb
anyways, comparing the ride to the Hampco and to the frame I traded it in for (Gaulzetti Issimo) it's a much softer and comfortable ride, not flexy by any means, but less snappy and racy...might be the seat/head angle and the lees beefy chain stays, I dunno!
it reminds me a lot of my very much loved 12 years old Colnago C40 (even if that's MUCH lighter and with steeper angles)
it's def not made for climbing, but on rolling terrain and when you get it up to speed it's really a brilliant bike and a great training companion
I'm sure we will spend a lot of miles together

    Default Merckx

Finished this Corsa Extra "frueler" with a mix of Campagnolo parts yesterday. Turned out pretty nice.

That's what I thought when I got mine back in 2001. And then I took it out on a 30km climb, and the numbers were comparable to what I was doing on my aluminium race bike!

    Default 80 ish merckx

[[/ATTACH]phpkNlCJCPM.jpgphpsZLNiePM.jpgI bouATTACH=CONFIG]50593ght this frame from a seller in Belgium, who dated the frame at 1980.The serial# corresponds to a commom anamoly (think its E as part of designation, used at a much ltr date) found on the 80 frames.Decals are correct as well as the fork crown which has eddy and merckx spelled out in the same script as downtube. The very earliest Merckx frames of his own manufacture had this signature repeated on the seat stay caps,in one catalog I have seen.Mine has the familiar em as a bicycle logo, don't know the exact date of its use but obviously early on...it has a 59 c-c st with a 57.5 tt. No tubing decal but I would guess it to be columbus sl....# holder underside of tt suggests some race history or aspirations in any event. The lugs are very similar to my 79 Derosa as are the frame dimensions. The flat crown and large ovalized chainstays are the major differences and most know of the early merckx /derosa history ,before and after his racing career. A mixed bag of super record and c-record,6 spds in friction ,it works for me..phpk2UE1NPM.jpgReally deserves some better pics but here's what I've got

I'm working on a proper website now. I will be at Westminster. Not going to have alot to sell but just to get my name out a bit and hopefully help some people out if they need any assistance. My shop is mostly word of mouth right now. Thanks!

My 64cm Eddy Merckx in Team Panasonic colors. Columbus SLX frame sticker. Campagnolo Chorus 9 speed build. First time I've been able to run a Campy Aero post, its almost long enough with the San Marco Rolls.
