My former MXL clocked in at 23lbs with Campy record/centaur 10 and 32 spoke clinchers. Rode great, but certainly felt the weight.

...My Merckx Century TSX with full Record 10 carbon group and Nucleons weighs in at a scant, but realistic 20 lbs. EM3

    Almost finished:

Merckx MX Leader 25th Anni Ltd Edition re-issue #77 of 100. Less than 500 miles from new (2004).

Needs some Acetone to the cranks and bottle cages. I have a set of Cinelli 64 bars on the way to try, along with a Cinelli Alter stem (quirky, but I like them, and I think it'll give me a slightly better position than the Grammo, delicious though it is!). I also have a white Ti Rolls which will probably replace the Cambium, comfort depending.

If I'm honest it's a bit long for me, but it won't get used for rides long enough to be a problem... I don't think.

Nice build, i would keep the black saddle even if the 'matching collar and cuffs' rule is broken.

I sort of agree Andy - mainly from a "that's how the Motorola bikes were" perspective, but this is how it looked when I first saw it:

    The white saddle just *works*.

It does. And you know, I think both work.

This has always been an all-time favorite frame of mine; even had a Clark-Kent custom Alexi-Grewal style frame (78 degree curved ST!) painted like this but reversed red/blue since I didn't want to copy the model too closely.

I'd be hard pressed to chose the black saddle or white. Good news is it's an amazing bike and neither choice will be wrong!

    A little more sorted:

It's a cracking ride - feels like a runaway steam train at speed! Unfortunately the extra 2kg over my 'zetti does notice, and Sydney isn't exactly flat...

I have a local hill close to home that has a decent climb, then a rolling section up top and some climb options down the sides. Last night I was going to do one lap on this then go home, swap bikes and do a lap on my 'zetti. I ended up staying out on the Merckx - these wheels are super-smooth, and offset against the extra effort it takes to get the Merckx going made for quite an enjoyable 'pleasure/pain' experience!

It's pretty good actually. VERY comfortable. I struggle a bit with the width of the nose, and I'm trying to work out whether or not to keep it on that basis.

Sadly I think the look of the white Rolls might be the death knell for the Cambium regardless...

Exactly how I felt about my MXL when it was still built up. Super stable freight train feeling when at speed.
I think I will have to build it up with a modern Chorus group and Neutrons sometime in the future. Because I was using late 90's Chorus 8-speed with really heavy wheels. Thing felt like a tank.

    Lovely build btw!

That wheelset+tubs combination makes any bike comfy.

Pretty!.... except those black spacers aren't working for me. I think the Cinelli 64s will bring the whole thing together even more. Just curious, what sort of clearance do you have under fork crown with your FMBs (assuming those are the PR 25c)?

Totally agree. But it's not just the comfort - they're so damn *smooth*...

Visually they don't for me either - necessary evil I'm afraid (and in fact I should probably have another 5-10mm in there). I do have some different colours on the way to try and disguise them a little better. Damn things seem to show up even more on a 1" steerer though...

They're competition CX in 25c. But to answer your question, there's *bags* of room under the fork crown. You'd get away with 28s I reckon, although that would be getting tight at the back.

So, erm, the white Rolls arrived, got mounted, didn't look right *at all* and was back in its box before I'd even tightened the bolt. To me it somehow looked not unlike mounting a white leather couch on a 2-seater sports car, and for some reason looked absolutely nothing like the pic up ^^ there - perhaps that's the problem with the 'new-old' ones, rather than a genuine one?

Anyway, I was then allowed access to my saddle stash unsupervised. That's when this happened:

I now can't go back. It's too damn cool.

Rich, if you want a white saddle, why not a perfed Regal? If your butt likes a Rolls and a carbon Flite, I'm sure it can handle a Regal. (I wish my butt was less picky...)
    That Flite looks awesome though.

Oh trust me, I've done the rounds trying to decide what will look right, be sort of 'period-correct' and still be comfortable (and I do really like the Regal shape so it's a good shout). Thankfully the Flite does tick all of those boxes, for me at least.

Besides which I think, ultimately, Andy was spot on. That, and the Rolls is possibly just far too new and spangly to look right.
