    Default Cielo

    Greetings,

Wanted to share my new build and start a thread for others interested in all things Cielo.

Just took my new Sportif Classic for a first ride... absolutely awesome. My good friend Shawn built it up at his shop, VeloLab ( velolab cycle works ). Shawn is a great guy and a fantastic mechanic. Anyone looking for service in the Halifax area should look him up (shameless plug for a friend!).

On the to do list are the colour matched fenders and a more aesthetically pleasing stem / headset setup.

Thinking about this but open to suggestion: VO Tall-Stack Stem, 1-1/8"

Shawn has posted some glamour shots on his shop blog VeloLab Cycle Works

For the sake of consolidation, here's a link to El Chorizo's Cielo: http://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum...ing-16040.html

    Here's a pic of mine:

    Happy riding,

    Josh

Nice bike...CK seems to be doing some great things with the design and manufacturing of the Cielo frame and frame parts like the dropouts. I have a VO tall stack stem on a bike and I'll think that you'll like both the performance and the aesthetics. On a side note, my wife and I visited Nova Scotia many moons ago for a two week vacation and we had a ball. Very friendly place and we got to see Great Big Sea play in a pub...we've been groupies ever since.

RW - thanks for the good word. Do you have a pic of your bike with the VO stem? You're right about the Cielo dropouts, they're finished with a degree of detail that I haven't seen anywhere else (not even on a custom Merlin)... the inside surfaces of the dropouts are machined for better grip against the hub / QR.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Nova Scotia. Great Big Sea are timeless, and you're lucky to have seen them in a pub, the old fashioned way!

Those Cielos are very pleasing from the standpoint of simplicity and classic road geometry. If you are happy with your stem/bar height, consider a Ritchey Classic stem. Seems like you have alloy everywhere else, so the Ritchey Classic would fit nicely. The Ritchey is a nice light stem and with diameters that work well with steel bikes. A lot of stems these days are bulked up and look better on a carbon or aluminum bike, but on a steel bike, they look out of place. While you are there, you could add the Ritchey Classic bar, which is a short reach compact bend bar like the WCS Curve and comes in alloy.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?

Thanks for the recommendation. The Ritchey Classic bar is what's on there right now!

True... Cielo Classic and Racer Stems – Cielo Cycles

If I was ready for the $300 "league of incredible stems", I'd be more inclined to go fully custom with the work of (a fellow Salonista) Eric Estlund ( Stems » Winter Bicycles )

Here's the best that I can offer regarding the stem as I'm on the road. I'll shoot something better when I get home this weekend. For $40 the VO stem is worth a try unless you have a carbon steerer tube.
