Good, lordy. That is an amazing bike. That silver reminds me of my old Specialized Allez Pro (DD Steel) I had many moons ago.. always one of my favorites.

So this is probably a stupid post......but.....

I'm dropping a deposit for a Chris Bishop creation tonight.....but after looking and looking and looking......I'm almost liking the TIG welded Item 4 as much as his lugged frames. I'm looking for something a bit more modern possibly.....but those filleted lugs......just so pretty. I mean isn't a lugged frame the reason to go with Bishop??

    Lugged...or TIG welded???

Would it really be a true bishop if it weren't lugged? Isn't that (by which I mean, his attention to detail with the lug incorporation and finishing) the *whole* appeal of his bikes?

It is, very nice, but I think that’s a lot to do with it’s stance and finishing kit - put it alongside one of its lugged brethren and it’d look like it’s missing something. IMHO at least.

First custom bike should always be a lugged frame. That, for me, is where the art is. Then get something else later.

But really, talk it over with Chris Bishop. He might have some solutions that float all your boats.

You know, like this Columbus Max lugged steel frame with direct mount brakes. That's pretty floaty.

Deposit made....and now the wait begins!

Hmmmm....fast road frame optimized for 30c tires to smooth out Texas chip seal......filleted lugs......internal rear brake cable.....steel fork.......direct mount brakes.....I know what I'll be thinking about for the next several months!

...and you've just made me realise what I would order if I were in the market right now - perhaps not a steel fork (although I could) and probably not a Bishop (although I definitely would), but direct mount brakes with room for 30c tyres for sure...

    ...perhaps I need a Pavaix...

I really love my steel (Bishop) fork, it's amazing. Good choice. My frame is sans-parts right now, and that needs to change quick! High end grouppos don't grow on trees though :)

And here's my future fork! Pretty cool seeing it come together. SO much more satisfying than walking into a bike shop and buying some carbon copy whatever.
