XS size (11 c-c, 13" c-t) Bonty Race incoming for my son. Coming with an old Mag 20 w/Bontrager's crown which should be neat.

    NOT a Race Lite:

Two piece stays: (and yes, I'm getting the brake bosses with it!)

I've owned many classis MTBs but this will the the first Bontrager, pretty excited. Looks like it is in super nice condition. How usable the fork is will be the big question mark.

Cool bike. I had a Racelite from the same era. I should have kept it and set it up as a SS- It had these unusual semi horizontal dropouts.

Guilty as charged, though it's not like Bonty's trade hands for a million bucks these days.

Oh man! I used to work at Liberty Cycle of Basking Ridge, NJ - which was a couple miles from Sports People. Man that brings back memories...

May I place dibs on it for 3 years from now, when my daughter will need that sized bike?

It works, but it's so cold in Michigan right now that it's frozen. Definitely on the lookout for something better.

Sure, it's good to have an escape plan! Might even be available sooner than that depending on how he grows.

That bike looks like a miniature modern MTB, in a good way. Hope it opens some doors for the rider.

OT, but the best kids bike progressions I've seen is Nao Tomii's bike for his son Fugo that went through several wheel sizes and setups before Fugo got a new bike (that was his dad's bike) and Fugo's old bike was redone for his sister Aila. Dad made a new bike for himself.

Back to Bontrager. Bikes like that make me wish I was a kid again. Sort of. At least until I was done riding it.

Update, Quadra has completely toasted bushings (enough that it totally binds up if you try to compress without the front brake on). So I either look for another set of Rock Shox (Mag 20/21 or a Quadra 21R) to bolt into that sweet bontrager crown or go a different direction.

I can't remember what was special about the Bontrager crown. Less offset?

Correct, less offset vs the regular crown. I think the Bontrager crown in this App is 1.25" vs the original at 1.6-1.7" range?

I’ve got a Mag21 hanging on our garage wall you could have if you wanted it. Bolt on crown. Got it as a gift, can pass it on.

Still on the lookout for a 1" steerer crown to fit on the Mag21 that Jesseth generously sent me, but in the meantime I pieced together this Judy with Englund air cartridges and a svelte aluminum 1" steerer.

Knocked the travel down to 55mm or so with a few spacers to get the A-C under control and pieced things back together.

Also found a nice Syncros post for it and a nice Avocet O2 ti saddle

BAM, badass 21.5 lb retro kiddo sled.

Wow, looks great. What a sweet little bike.

Makes me wish I was 2 feet shorter, and 40 years younger!
