Brian,

I like you jig for positioning the chain stays. I did the same exact thing.

Is yours made out of wood or metal? Have you brazed your chain stays in yet?

I made mine out of 1" aluminum angle. Once the stays were brazed in, I had found that there was some flex (less than 1mm) with the aluminum angle, and my stays were slightly off from each other. Luckily I am using horizontal dropouts, so that is easily taken care of with some adjustment of the dropout screws. The next time I do this, I will remake my jig with steel 1" angle.

As for other low budget "Fantasy Downsizing" ideas for home builders, here is a picture of a jig I made to hold various tubes at the correct angles for not much more than a buck!

I got it finished up for a group ride back on the weekend. I need to face the top of the head tube down about 5mm to drop my bars, I was hesitant to do it all in the first shot.


Stress testing my brazes on it's first ride. No messing around, jump straight into the deep end. These rock rolls on the North Shore aren't actually that hard or stressful frame, the transition from rock to ground is better smooth. But they look scary :)
