Front Der. Direct Mount

I'm not a big fan of the Paragon front der. direct mount because it's a fairly heavy chunk of steel and I don't like the square der. body against the round mount.

I pieced together one last summer but it's way too much work to be practical.

Would you be interested is a design like this? It weighs half as much and should be easy to open up the miter to 1.25" if needed.

I wonder if you could just have a PEM nut pressed on the back there instead of having to braze/get the machined nut made up. Just a thought, looks good!

Why not just make the hole to be tapped?

The only reason it's not tapped is because the material is too thin.

I'll get some quotes this week and see if it's viable.

That would certainly work but I though it might be a PITA, especially for trail-side repairs.

Interesting design. I like the simplicity.

I have no experience with direct mount front derailleurs, but I do design bent steel parts for my day job.Your inner bend radius (1.59mm) is a little too tight for the 1.9mm material thickness. It should be closer to 1.98mm, at least.

Here's a link to the PEM nuts I was talking about. Seriously awesome. I use them all over on the automated equipment I build. Never had one fail or pop out.

Joel - Here I was "thinking" that the recessed nut was actually just a bottle boss. I suppose if you are having this stamped/bent in a few ops, they could stamp a recess to register a bottle boss that then the builder could braze / file flush. Just a thought.

Nice joel, i like it. I would lay a couple out as drawn and then bend them before you pay to have any laser cut. I could be wrong but I'm thinking that the proximity of the end of the slot to the bend line is going to create some unwanted distortion.

That part looks like it could be designed to be laser cut from a tube as well. Looks like some 1.25" square tube by .083 wall would be perfect.

edit; i think places with machines like this are fairly common these days, shouldn't be hard to find one.

I'm getting (25) mitered and (25) non-mitered version made next week. Once I confirm they work I'll offer them for sale.
