Anyone know where I might source a set of cones for an older XTR rear hub (FH-M960)? I was repacking my hub earlier today, and discovered one of them is toast.

Wheels Mfg. Wheels Manufacturing, Inc.
They should have what you need. Your lbs can order.

Nice. Thanks TT. I'll see how much my LBS feels like helping me with this.
Wheels MFg. seems to be selling direct at this point (I just received an order from them and I'm just a regular non-LBS guy), so maybe you won't need yor LBS assistance.
Apparently Wheels Manufacturing doesn't have this part. I'm having trouble finding anything online. I do see axle assemblies for sale-I think they might include cones but I am not sure.
The Shimano part numbers are:
Y3BY98020 - Axle kit which will include cones
Y32T98040 - Left cone
Y3BY98030 - Right cone
Your LBS should be able to order these in if Shimano have stock left.

DA cones of the same generation will work too , lots of times this was the hot fast set up
Interesting. I think the seal arrangement is quite different between the two, but I haven't taken a 7700(?) hub apart to know for sure.
I got some rather enthusiastic help from a wrench at one of the better LBSs in town. He will order a cone from Shimano for me, provided they have one in stock. My fingers are crossed.
PS-after nearly 3 years, I am on the verge of breaking the 100 post barrier.
I'm in the same situation as the OP here: pitted right cone. As this hub didn't cost me much, I thought I would try to use XT or other Shimano cone. Any ideas what would be the nearest option? Races are in ok condition and freewheel needs service but can be rescued.
