Default Anyone using the new Paul Minimoto Mini-V's?

I'm tempted to pick up a pair and have been happy with all Paul products I've used in the past, but I was just curious if anyone has been using them as I haven't seen any reviews anywhere and don't know anyone else using them yet. Anyone here trying them out?

Just put mine on this weekend. I replaced Touring Cantilevers. So far I would say they are true to form, feel more powerful, maybe slightly less modulation. I haven't had any fork shudder issues with either brake on an Enve CX fork. They're both good brakes.

I went with TRP CX 9s also with Enve CX fork which look pretty dialed with Shimano's CX 70 group. The Pauls have been slow to launch but I'm sure they'll stop you in style.

I just ordered a set for the CX frame I built, might be a while before I get to try them though.

i just put a set of mini techtros on my cross bike.
lever feel a little soft but braking action far better than cantis.

I'm curious if the Paul v's have any tangible advantages over, ahem, cheaper alternatives. On the top of the list would be rim/pad clearance. What I would do for an extra 1mm.... They sure are pretty though, and it is just a matter of time before I buy some.

I tried these mini Tektros and like them too. Replacing my XT cantis with these and 1 caliper cost about as much as a package of replacement brake pads.

Those mini Tektros don't fit on some CX forks. They didn't on my ENVE CX fork. Work fine as a rear brake though.

I haven't tried the Paul's yet but Stevil at allhailtheblackmarket.com got a pair that he is reviewing.

Thanks for the reminder, I am swapping out my fork for one with an unthreaded steerer. I better check that the new fork will work with a front mini v. Of course mini vs are more likely to interfere with fenders.

There are different lengths of mini vs and I tried Shimano STI levers with a Tektro 926 (80mm BMX version) and Tektro RX6 (90mm) I liked the shorter versions. Of course a shorter lever has less travel and would be considered to have less modulation but more power. Different pads may change that. I also read that SRAM levers work better with slightly longer calipers (85/90mm).

Nope. Rim/pad clearance is purely a function of arm length. What I've started to do when I know a customer is going to use mini-vs is put the brake boss as low as possible so that the pad is at the top of the slot. This gives you the most arc of the pad per a given amount of cable pull. But back to your question, those tektro cheapies are 85 mm long, so they will perform about as well as the fancier brakes.

Yeah it was kind of a stupid question. I still want some. I'm using the Tektro brakes now and after setting the brakes right and dishing all my wheels properly they are pretty darn adequate. I was gonna try cantis again that I switched to an Enve fork but the lack of a brake bridge mount for a cable stop is going to keep me on mini-v's.

Pauls has a piece called a Funky Monkey. Its a bolt on cable stop. They have them that fit on seat posts or take the place of a seat post clamp also one that fits on the stem if you need on for the front.

I just got mine and ran into some issues fitting them on the rear. My canti post measurement (c to c) is 70mm and they won't fit. 80mm on my fork, and they fit fine. Emailed their info to see if there is any mod/workaround. Oy.

Did you try swapping the spacers on the pad stud so the wider one is on the outside?

swapping the spacers helped a bit, some strategic attention with a round file helped a bit more

Mine are on the way. Will report back when I've got them set up on my clusterfuck Rawland - Chorus shifters, Paul minimotos, XTR front, white vbc 28/44, conversion cassette on a shimano hub with a 13-27.

Anybody get some miles on these yet? I have a set on the way.

I decided to grow up a bit this year, so I'm putting gears and mini v's on my SSCX bike.

Surferdude, why would you ever put gears on a SSCX? I am seeming to get rid of my gears and going more SS ish on my herd.
