    Default SS-A-Palooza

Yo SUCKAS, better set your alarm clocks!!! Registration opens THIS Sunday!! **PGLC**

    DarkHorse Cycles
"Spoke with the DEC and looks like we are the only event on the schedule for April 28th, so SSAP 2013 is a go! Registration opens on February 3rd at noon on BikeReg.com - online cycling event registration and spots will fill up fast. There is no waiting list this year and 250 racers will be treated to the finest 25 miles Stewart has to offer. Race packet pick up will be available at the shop for the entire week in advance of the race. We have hired a chip timing service, and we will be collecting the chips as you cross the finish line. If you don't return the chip, the company charges a $50 charge, so make sure the volunteers get it back. Real time scoring, and real time results will be available as well."

I've not done this one, but I've done a couple or three of the DH40's. These guys put on a great MTB event.

Took a bit longer than an hour but it indeed sold out!

I'm in! First time for this event so any recommendations for gearing would certainly be appreciated.

Seriously- can you now all construct your shrines and pray now (and heavily) to the trail gods for no rain.

i missed out. too busy skiing with the 2.5 year old. if anyone decides to back out, let me know. i'll take your spot.

danger, assuming you are running 26 inch wheels, i was happy with a 32x17 my first year (2011) in the torrential slop. last year i was happy at the stewart six pack (same trails, six hours) with a 32x19 on the 29er.

This race is good time all around. Last year the conditions were perfect and fast. Couple of years earlier it was 40% under water. I took a pass this time around; my back hasn't recovered from some hurricane sandy shenanigans at work. You guys that are doing it for the first time are in for a good day.

If you're looking to be competitive, There is only one mantra that is appropriate for races in Stewart. Go big or go home.

As a point of reference, I typically run 34x18 as an all around gear on a 29er. The last time I raced in Stewart, I ran 35x17 and thought I could have gone bigger. Course was bone dry when I raced it last. In the slop, it gets sloppy there. gear yourself appropriately enough to keep moving in deep water.

Haha, I registered from the parking lot at one of our local riding spots, at around 1pm. Didn't want to risk waiting til I got home.

As others have said, the Dark Horse crew indeed puts on terrific events, as you can see from the frenzy of activity on registration day.

I'll be there and bringing fireworks. Is that going to be a problem? ;)

I never raced there, but I have ridden there, and I would say don't go less than 2:1. It's fast and flowy.

26 or 650B, haven't quite made the final decision yet. Would love to ride the Ted Wojick 26er though considering I just built it up. I have a 32x18 on it at the moment so I might just stick with that. I have a 34T chainring as well as 16T, 17T & 20T cogs in my shop so I can mix it up.

Even though my bike will has one speed, I have two: slow and stop! I'm going because it sounds like a blast from what I've read in the past.

Sounds like you have taken a page from this mans playbook- he seems to own Stewart. Good advice... Unless it rains. ( have you been worshipping heavily as I instructed?)

There's a reason he loves this race... He killed it today!

Great seeing some familiar VS faces and meeting some new. The place was mint, and DH throws one hell of a race...

There are some photos are posted online.

Great day to be out in the woods! The event went off well, weather was amazing and trails for miles. Very happy to have some time to chat with other salon-istas like Shoogs, TheBottleRide, Mr.DangerPants, and Zank. Can't wait for the next round!!

The Boston Killers- they add some serious depth to the NY group... NJ does not have Mass assassins and I would have finished 10th in the Jersey group vs. 33 in NY group....Love you guys.
