It sure does. Saw a guy with a (he says) 8 pound fixie. I helped my friend strip down his road bike- straight carbon bar, thumb shifter for rear only, 1 brake lever and only front. Single 24th front chain ring. Saved quite a bit of weight.
I'm actually thinking of running a much smaller front wheel to correct for the angle of the hill and save some weight.

Completely unsanctioned. I'd say unless you showed up with an electric assist, you'd be good to go.

For fun, we once made it up twice and got back down just before. Good times.
Don't try it on carbon rims :-)
