It's coming up quick, Iron Cross VIII on October 10. Great venue and well run event.
As usual the event website is trailing a bit but here's the reg. link

It's like D2R2 but a wee bit harder, faster and better signage ;) Trust me, this will crush you in a good way.

Enjoy S.C. I have another inlaw infestation that weekend :(

It falls on the same day as the last day of the Cincinnati UCI 'cross festival. :-(

    Life stinks.

Given I'm not on top form this year, opted to pass on the much closer Cinci cross fest and head to PA for the fun ride known as Iron Cross. Planning to bring the mtb along and spend a couple days near Raystown and ride some of the Allegrippis trails before heading home.

Too Tall, you'll be missed. I'm going to be seeking a draft this year as the engine isn't running on all cylinders given the lack of focused training. Been enjoying simply riding. Sorting out some gearing options so I can spin a bit more.

Sounds painfully fun but Cinci is just a short trip up 71

Is this race singlespeed-able for mere mortals? I had my eye on Hyattsville that weekend, but need to get up and see some cousins in Philly sometime this Fall.

Yes. There is a single spd. division and a strong contingent of Chesapeake Wheelmen/King Pawn riders on single spd. It is a mostly wide open course with a TON of climbing. Starts with an short cx course than heads "way way out there" and returns to the cx. Somewhere in the middle these screwballs make you crawl up a loose dirt mtn. side. I'm not kidding.

It's a load of fun, there isn't much like it.

There are a few SS racers each year. It's around 7k' of climbing. No way would this mortal do it via SS but many do.

Be glad you missed the first couple of years when they softened up everyone with a hike a bike shortly after the start. Though it was nothing like the power line climb around mile 26. A sherpa for that crawl would be great!

Hmmm ... this thing is calling me in a big way.

Is it an individual or team event? I hope to be on good form by then.

If anyone did this race the first year, I was one of the guys who decided y'all needed some "barriers" on the powerline climb.

It's individual although they do have some form of team points competition

You are indeed one cruel course designer ... barriers on what was barely passable! It's a great event, I make it every year that I can.
