The Ramble, as it's usually referred to, is an informal gathering of friends for a few rides, dinner at my house, and a chance to enjoy the Finger Lakes of western NY, some of the best riding I've ever experienced. I originally announced this year's Ramble in December. Since then Cycles Tournesol has graciously agreed to provide sponsorship. There is no cost to participants for rides or Saturday's dinner. Folks participate entirely at their own risk and bear all other personal costs, of course. Here's the relevant part of the original invitation, which appeared by the gracious accommodation of Serotta on their Forum:
Over the past few years we've had an informal gathering in the Finger Lakes of western NY where we've rambled the pavement and hard packed gravel country roads, braved the weather when we had to, gathered at my house for the ride rendezvous and enjoyed a Saturday evening dinner. We took last summer off but I'm ready to do it again this summer. This is an entirely preliminary announcement with all details to follow. (Honestly, numbers just can't get outta' hand, so I think we'll have something like an "I'm in" and when we reach a certain number close it down.) I want to reiterate that this is an entirely INFORMAL gathering, albeit one I'm happy to organize. I'd rather not answer any questions yet about the Ramble or how we organize, except to say that it is primarily a social gathering of cyclists, _not_ a race, not a fast ride, not like a club gathering. Our aim is to ride easy, talk plenty, keep everyone together, and wait for folks who fall behind. There's nothing formal about it, everyone is completely responsible for her or his own safety, riding choices, and personal needs. I'll recommend accommodations and help however I can. Details to follow. This is just a Save the Date Postcard.
So the Finger Lakes Ramble will be on the weekend of August 8th-10th, meeting at my house in Bristol, New York (very near Canandaigua, NY, the closest airport/city is Rochester though Buffalo and Syracuse are close too). Folks should look for accommodations in or near Canandaigua, Bloomfield/Bristol, or write to me personally here: dbrk@frontiernet.net
