    Default Tunes Thread

Am appreciative of the diversity of musical tastes of various board members. Have been introduced to some really good stuff I'd never heard before.

How 'bout we keep things going here? Any genre, any form.

I'll post a few of one of my favorite bands ever. Saw 'em in concert several years ago here in NYC.

I've been listening to a lot of Lyle Lovett lately. Should pick up tickets to see him live again when he hits the Mid Atlantic circuit in January.

Just discovered a section on youtube that has isolated instrument tracks. Check these out. F'ing AWESOME. I could listen to this for hours. These would make great winter trainer workout tracks.

Led Zep's John Bonham on Fool in the Rain:

Rush's Neil Peart on Tom Sawyer:

I've seen him 3 times in Miami and once in Brazil. The last concert in Miami was with an entirely new band and had a "mangue beat" feel to it (look up the term - it's a Northeastern (Brazil) sound created by Chico Science and Nacao Zumbi). Of course - two of the members of the band are also in Nacao Zumbi - and it was a nice treat. All the Brazilians were there expecting a little samba and typical Seu Jorge music and left a little disappointed though. Either way - he's a good performer.

The newest Seu Jorge album is backed by the band Almaz. It is a different sound than his other stuff, a little more restrained and cooler. It is still good, but not like the other stuff.

James Booker might have been an alien. I think he has some extra fingers on the palmar side of his left hand. Really? Bass runs with his pinky while he chords with other three fingers and then the melody with right hand? And to top it off he has a silver glitter star on his left eye patch. Fck Paul Stanley. Poser.

    New tunes for the price-conscious.

New live Yeasayer album, "Live at Ancienne Ballroom," is available for download here. Name your own price. Yes, "free" is an option.
    YEASAYER

I've given it several listens already. I wholeheartedly endorse this band.

Also, MIA's newest mix tape, "Vicki Leekx" (get it?) is downloadable for free here.
    ViCKi LEEKX

Got it, but haven't had a chance to listen to it all the way through yet. Sounds like... well, MIA.

    Happy new year. Enjoy.

I love all kinds of music, so my choices are pretty eclectic.

Blackfoot is a great riding music. The lead singer has one lung. You can't tell. Southern Rock and roll from a group of Blackfoot indians.

Muddy Waters plays with all of his heart.

Robert Johnson was rumored to have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads. Eric Clapton has called Johnson "the most important blues singer that ever lived." When Keith Richards first heard a recording from Johnson, He said "who is the guy playing along with him?"

Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'invenzione (The Contest between Harmony and Invention) The recording by Monica hugget and the Raglan players is done with period instruments (meaning catgut strings) and is not a bright sound like modern strings have. The first four of the essays are known as "The Four Seasons"
