Today I tried another adventure, but this time to Cannes. Tristan told me it would be a little flatter, still on the coast. 42 and rain. It was a little hard to motivate riding in this weather, but I wanted to see what the place was like. I saw another Bentley today, and a Ferrari. Yesterday I only saw a Bentley and an Aston Martin. Of the 3, which do you choose? I suppose the model matters. I recently have a strong affinity for the Bentley. Those three brands are all quite classy, it?s a toss-up, really. Anyhow, I even ended up on the highway when I strayed from the coast and a police car passed and ended up pulling in front of me? I thought that might be all, but then he pulled behind, and didn't put his siren on. I got off at the next exit and he waved. I thought that was rather nice of him. I got to Cannes, took a photo of that Ferrari and a Mister Pizza where they deliver on scooters. I liked that idea. Very zippy. There was also a Diesel jeans shop. I really don't know the desire to purchase articles that are over 50 dollars, but I suppose the price makes them superior. That's how marketing is sometimes. I took the coastal route back and found my way in 4hrs total. It was a nice ride, but I was starved. I microwaved some Uncle Ben's microwavable long grain rice and some canned chili. Mmmm mmmmm, mediocrity at its best. A nap, dinner at IndoChine with my two Chinese roommates who visited Monaco by train today, one of the places I went yesterday. We walked around, I took them to the grocery store, Monoprix. We returned, and I went back out for another hours walk at 9:30pm. It's quieter than one would expect at night. Many were sitting down for dinner. I suppose it was too early for the discotheques, of which I cannot find many. I will try on Friday evening to do something fun.
It's important to stay rested and fit, though. My metabolism is alright and the legs are feeling good even after the longer miles which are important to get in and sadly I should have more 4+hr rides in my legs, but it's certainly better to do now than never.
As far as the most recent posts and replies go, I'm glad everyone is offering me their daughters as prospective mates like they did in the Middle Ages, but I've found a good one myself that I?d hesitate to toss away, however enticing the descriptions of the ones promised. I thought the market was terrible, anyhow?
Until tomorrow. Good night.
Travels with Will. The Steinbeck of cycling. THANK YOU...!!!!
Fit is directly proportional to fitness.
This is priceless:

Yesterday was cooler than the music video "Welcome Back" by Mase (2004).
YouTube - Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
The tale begins. I awoke and ate my typical meusli (granola) breakfast with banana and a yogurt as well as half of the loaf of bread I bought the previous eve. The two Chinese girls rooming with me (Vernoica the taller and Cindy the smaller) left and I was getting ready for a day of exploration to the Poggio past San Remo. It wasn't raining! But I dressed in thermals just in case it was cold in the hills. The skies were great and I got some photos in. In Monaco I saw 1 Ferrari, 2 Ferraris, 3 Ferraris, 4. 5 Ferraris, 6 Ferraris, 7 Ferraris, more? Heck yes there were. It was a freggin' Ferrari dealership. I learned later from a certain someone that there were 3 in Monaco. I ran into some riders that spoke mostly Italian with a little French and they told me they were headed in the direction of San Remo, so I continued with them for maybe 10k or so. I rode next to a 22year old girl from Italy who was keeping the pace fairly quick I might say. I don't remember her name, but I smiled and said, "I'm in search of Tom Boonen (Je cherche Tom Boonen." We laughed and after struggling with French and Italian of which I only know "Ciao Bella," I made for the Poggio. Passing a few other Italians who pointed the Poggio straight ahead maybe Quattro kilometres, I saw a flash of familiar colors zip by in the opposite direction. What kit is white and blue? And what kit is red and black? Surely not? But yes! It was! The 2005 World Road Champion and two of his mates had just gone past. Do I continue to the Poggio, or catch up and say hello?
I thought for a little while, thinking about the imposition and the possible embarrassment and all, but in the end, I chose the latter. A time trial. I passed roads where they could've turned and didn't know where they had gone. I could always go back to the Poggio, but wouldn't you rather ride with Tom Boonen? I hear he likes to party, who wouldn't want to find him? I chose straight every time - roundabouts, forks in the road. And I turned another curve in the road and there they were. "Bonjour Monsieurs".

equipe headline...
" dugan chases down boonen, attacks,
tom ...."enough for me..."
Hey Will this chic rolls with Boonen....
"make the break"
Priceless, freakin priceless.
As a former UVM'er I'm embarrassed to say that the only time the words 'my metabolism' appeared together in a sentence during my 4... no make that 5 years there, it would've most likely been in a discussion about how many stumplifters one could consume at the last chance.
bravo Will, you're a class act.
Your trusty tall teammate checking in. I don't know if you'll get this in time so maybe I'll send you an email as well. I really enjoyed hearing about your adventure in Flanders/Nice/Europe in general, and I wish you the best at Cross Worlds. We're all here cheerin for ya, Lee and I will be sending some fast legs vibes your way over the weekend. I told my Dad to watch the race on cyclingfans.com since he'll be recovering from a hospital procedure to be done on Friday. Just race your race, have fun, and I'm sure the fast will come! peace out will.
