Default Ye Olde Bike Pics Go Here

Took a trip down memory lane...here's a scanned a pic from ye olde days.

Definitely early 80's, before Trek had carbon steerer tubes...

This bike was great fun (although my sophisticated knowledge of bikes at the time was limited to: get on it, ride it, and go as hard as I could--best result was winning Manhattan Beach GP juniors race, the ONLY race I've ever won in my life!). Some things I'm noticing: all the cool kids had Magic Guanto gloves, Benotto tape (oh, red & white two-tone even!). Looks like there's Modolo Kronos shifters on there, along with a San Marco Concor colored seat cover (remember those goofy stretch-on things?).

The local team I rode for at the time (in southern cal.) was a rag tag crew and the team shop was a owned by a crusty old hardcore ("old school" is the appropriate term) european guy, but there were 1 or 2 guys who were def. national caliber and went on to great careers in bike racing land. It was a unique period of time I can look back on fondly with lots of great memories.

    It's a funny thing, life.

So, post up some old pics or fun stories if you've got 'em!

What kind of trek is that and what year?

I don't have any old bike stories, but I do own two treks. Both are from 1984, a 760 and a 520.

I think it's a Trek 560. Pic was maybe 1984-1985. I was much better looking then.

Hijack this thread a little bit. On the Performance Bike blog they've had a few posts where they explore some of their older catalogs, pretty good pics and memories:

    Flashback Friday 1987 Pedals 2.0

    Flashback Friday 1985 Recycled

    Flashback Friday Spring/Summer 1983

    And a 560 it is.

Play with that site if you haven't. It's a great resource.

mr. cliche: thanks for that link, what a great website!

i craved that pink trek 770. a buddy of mine who worked at a local shop (laguna beach cyclery, out in california) had one. that was THE cat's meow bike of bikes.

there's a guy here in nyc that occasionally rides around central park on one, he's fully decked out on a pristine pink trek bike replete with pink kit (giro-related, i think).
