Default weekend rides; chris black training camp 12/2/12

46 showed up out of 165 or so yesterday due to a downpour, I went anyway. Rain stopped. 55 miles of sloppy roads but good fun including motorpacing 5 miles into town (thanks Wally!) Following the ride Pinnacle Training Systems Felicia Gomez, former pro and Phd, gave a talk on nutrition...and she rode like hell too! 179354_4101739221526_738189432_n.jpg photo by Road Bike Action Magazine.

No rain here...just a bit cold at the start but the sun came out and reminded me of why I like to ride in the Fall. Photo taken about 5 miles from home; Squaw Run Road East for the locals; with an early 1900's stone wall built by folks just happy to be in America.

Ohhhh my I am envious of the XC skiing.

A nice ride today, no drama. Most fun was tucking in behind two smoking fast Tri-Athletes who were hell-bent to break the sound barrier. Nice to draft these cats at a billion miles per hr. What the @#$%@$ is the deal, it is winter time they must have some event in S.America???

Found some interesting things during the ride. First is a pair of glasses that look like they were melted by a satanic 5 year old using a magnifying glass. The second was found sitting on wet ground just as you see it....drying that out now to give to Queen...hope she does not get any bright ideas.

Four hours today. Started with the group, but they never seemed to get out of warmup mode. Sped away only to come across a fellow visiting from out of town who had just swapped out a punctured veloflex tubular. So naturally we chatted and I gave him a tour of some industrial parks and an airport access road. We then broke into a spirited pace when we saw the group from earlier heading back to the meetup point. I finished that off with an hour solo enjoying the weather and experimenting with lower and lower tire pressure. All in all, a good day. Time to fuel up now for a big day tomorrow.

Spent a couple of hours in the woods with the little beast. Very humbling conditions, took me about 90 minutes to find my mojo (and lose my toe warmers). A half inch of snow over waxy leaves, compounded by a steady mist. Slip-err-eeee.

Only saw one other tire track, but lotza footprints from hunters. Told them where the deer were but I don't think they had the gumption to get there.

My first and last experiment with self-timer. Mist + Avid discs = horn to announce your presence to hunter and game.

Equipment note: my new Special--ed Defroster shoes keep my toes warm, but pick up oak leaves as if I'm wearing golf spikes. Product managers for MTB stuff need to spend time in the New England woods and get to know the oak leaf.

Took my 7yr old on our first tandem (tagalong) mtb ride. Skipped rocks, made some cairns and laid on the dock at the lake in tshirts and shorts on Dec 1, listening to the loons and bard owls. Nine miles later he wants to mount the lights and go back out for more. I'm thinking I've got 70 miles of gravel tomorrow, so I'll drink a beer right now and revisit the night ride idea in an hour.

These are good days. Can't find my camera though.

Short jog in Savannah. Hope to ride a bike again on Tuesday. My torn hamstring from the crash this summer is no longer the limiting factor. That is good.

I didn't get in the big ride I wanted to today, by the time I got the chores done it was noon thirty before I got on the bike.
Windy, and wet, standard op for this time of year. I'm jealous of Sonny's 75 miles, but my fat ass would be sucking the last 20...

Yep, Batchelor St and Earl's Trails are legendary and right in the neighborhood. Wanna make a field trip? We can post-game at the Moan and Dove http://moananddove.com/on-draught/.

I spent the last two days on the annual trip to ride around on my dad's boat the "SS-I-Beat-Prostate-Cancer-And-I'm-Buying-A-Boat-And-A-Place-In-Del-Boca-Vista-Phase-II". Riding in the mountains tomorrow.
