    Default Weekend Ride Reports 2012/11/1-4

Email from town saying full power will not be restored until November 10 or 11th. Dumped freezer full of food today.
Kids still home from school. Time to go ride my bike.

Busted utility poles are slowing the process down.

Caretakers house on the preserve. Luckily the tree missed the house.

I spoke to a ConEd crew on the road. They are still concentrating on getting the dangerous trees down and then will begin to restore power.
The guy said he has 2700 people working on restoring power in the county.

The whole county is a really challenging cx course.

Last weeks snow is almost all gone. One of the ladies birthday's was tonight. So she picked the theme of Tutus and Tiaras.

Think Alison Powers could pass most any of us here and would be hard to find a much nicer person to be passed by.

You are right on! She is one of the nicest, sweetest people around. Hell they let me slow them down every week! One time she fell on technical CX uphill and I got to pass (because I was already running, it was too hard for me)... I still brag about passing her.

Just back from what might be the best time I've had on a bike in a year. No complaints about those mid-chemo rides but today was just an absolute blast. One of those days where you just feel good, jumping the bike off stuff for the heck of it or simply pogo hops as I rode along. Legs felt good and it was beautiful out. Headed to the woods, temps mid-30s and the sun comes out. Rock this great little section of trail that's like a pump track, don't want it to end. Start to see deer, then spook up a buck and a doe. There seems to be a single buck that hangs in the park. By the end of the loop it's been eleven deer and two massive hawks. Plus a sweet time on the bike. LOVE IT! Great way to start the weekend early.

Hope you all have some fun out there.

Joe, AP is indeed nice. Nice bunch of riding mates you've connected with .

Took off work to play in the dirt, but buddy calls and says he can take a long lunch ride near town so wind and road it was. The Roadster hadn't seen pavement since July, sitting in the garage w/20psi in the tires. Road bikes are fun.

After forever without any bike to ride (many weeks) I now have a complete bike, my brand new Ibis Mojo HD140. The build is an XT/XTR mix, Revelation World Cup dual position dual air fork, CK hubs to Flow EX rims and some other misc stuff. I am going to break it in tomorrow.

A couple hours with velobran for a nice, easy spin up and down the coast. Tested out the new Soulrun mini tool roll. It works and, even better, I didn't need it. I also rode my steel Steve Rex for the first time in a few weeks...love that bike. And best of all, it was the first arm warmers needed ride of the year. Beautiful weather, a great ride, and a perfect way to kick off the weekend.

The roads are clogged with people looking for fuel, so it's a good opportunity to explore the woods.

Mother Nature plays cruel tricks, doesn't she? In the residential and commercial areas of the Island, trees are down all over the place. In the woods, where there are more trees, not so much! But enough to necessitate a fair amount of bike portaging.

Spent the better part of the day clearing the trails at my church-the storm f'ed up my refuge when I need it the most.

Then went for a sprint around the park to check out the good work.
    Amen.

Felt like taking it easy today, so I set out in the small ring and kept it there the whole time. It was great! I tend to get caught up in monitoring all the numbers on my Garmin while out riding, so I tried to make a conscious effort not to do that today.

Really nice out... roads in the forest are covered in debris from the last couple weeks.

Rode out to my family's bi-annual lets-stock-mom-&-dad-up-with-winter-stovewood-workday. We worked like carpenter ants and made some sawdust out of that stack. A dozen pairs of hands sawing and splitting and stacking. Gonna be sore tomorrow, but I earned that country brunch Mom whips us for us at halftime (work 3 hours, eat, work a little slower for 3 more hours...). These are good days. Yesvember.

This photo would look better with a Gaulzetti Corsa in it.

Kissed my future wife for the first time at a college party at this place. Miss that '78 El Camino, though.

Shot this on the wheel/trot on the way home. Camera captured timing so that it looks posed.

Like the bottle ride I started my day off by chopping down trees. This was a big dead lodgepole too close to the driveway. I was watching it sway in the wind the other day and envisioning it smashing the cars. Unlike bottle, I don't have a chainsaw. I need one.

I rode on some sweet single track, just a bit of snow at the top. The downhill is so fun you keep pushing yourself to go faster.
