Somebody made a trip to Total Wine...
I think stocks in DC might be about done already. Word is they're already popping up for sale on the secondary market.

Auk's words to live by:
Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.
Better hustle up. This has been all over the airwaves and I don't think stock in the DC area lasted more than about two hours. Total Wine in Laurel answered the phone "Hi, this is Tom and thank you for calling Total Wine. We have sold out of the Westvleteren."
Homebrew club meeting tonight. Will be interested to see how many folks made the trip. General consensus thus far has been "meh," dollars better spent elsewhere.

If I can find this (doubtful), why do I want it?

Nick, I was in Whixley and Whitby. I have been to the brewery itself though, a couple years back.
Had a Black Sheep at the Black Swan in Oldstead and a John Smith at the Magpie with my fish and chips.

changing continents...
I'm in Portsmouth NH tonight- is there anywhere I should go besides the Smuttynose pub?

All you guys with Westvleteren are making me jealous. People in Toronto were apparently lined up at 6:00, and it sold out in four minutes (according to the paper). Needless to day, showing up when the doors opened wasn't good enough. I didn't get any and am mad. Easing the pain with Chimay (and it's working).
All Colnagos must be raced.
Last time I tried a Belgian beer it tasted like Budwieser.... Am I wrong? 'effing hipster fixie wanna bees....
$85 for 6 is not all that bad in the ultra-premium market. I was also hoping to get some, but probably will never see it. Timing is everything in life, even more than 'location'. This is marketing 101.
This is what I'm pouring tonight.
The Fonz is putting on his waterskis.
I love how you use the electrical outlet there to emphasize your minimalist lifestyle.

Anchor Brewing | Beers | Christmas Ale
I believe it's a unique recipe every year. Each year a different tree on the bottle as well - this year's bottle says it's the 38th year. My sig. other's family was first introduced to it when she was in college in the Bay area and her dad has been geeked out on it ever since. He keeps one bottle from each year and I think he's topped 10 years by now - they actually live in the kitchen cupboard. We usually rush to get a couple of cases around Thanksgiving because by the time Christmas rolls around distributors are out as they don't want to be caught holding dead stock after the holidays. It's also available in a large format bottle for about $18 - we've got one on the mantle waiting for Christmas Eve.
Oh yeah, it is really good stuff.
