Darren do you buy German beer from Germany? Try Spaten Octoberfest or my fav. Spaten Optimator.

I can't remember which beer it is exactly, but I know that Bell's has a seasonal beer that I love... and I think that it comes out around oktoberfest... Two Hearted? Am I right here? Dunno.

Also, little bit of thread drift, but would it be dumb to try to knock down an oktoberfest trip with sprint speed? That is, flying out thursday night, arriving friday morning, eating drinking all weekend, flying back sunday afternoon and arriving sunday evening. Anyone ever tried something like this?
Fights begin, finger prints are took, days is lost, bail is made, court dates are ignored, cycle is repeated.

    My two fave's right now.

Dos Perros by Yazoo Brewing Nashville, TN
Turbodog by Abita Brewery, Abita Springs, LA

They're dark and malty, but not quite porter/stout atmo.

BTW if we're spelling it "Oktoberfest" then it's "BIER", Ja?

I think it was, as the Germans say, Klosterfokken. Tim O'Donnell

I always enjoy going to the Tour de Louisiana just to eat Saturday night dinner at the Abita Springs Brewery. Lots of good beers.

I used to do that. It's amazing how good you can get. Very few bottled beers atmo are as good as a well done homebrew.

I tend to be skeptical of seasonal beers. Maybe it's because the PNW is full of "craft breweries" that get too cute with the recipes and turn out stuff that's unique but not good.

About 7 years ago a local brewery inflicted their Oktoberfest Pumpkin Ale on one of the alumni functions before a Husky game. It'll take a few more years of good beer to wash that memory away.

uh, when it that? sounds like something I should put on my calendar. I don't engage in competition eating, but some might think so when they see me dive into a table full of mudbugs.:D

The sam adams octoberfest is good stuff. especially on tap.

I mentioned in another thread a while back that the Maui Brewing Coconut Porter is quite nice. Only comes in cans. Kinda chocolaty and coconutty. Kinda all delicious. Maybe available at BevMo in Calif at this point.
