Gimme a Rochefort Tappist 10 or give me death.
the dogfish head beers are good.
i've been enjoying the lagunitas correction ale alot lately.
the deschutes hop henge pale ale is real good, seems to imperial IPA looking at the abv and IBU's.

i got a deschutes red chair IPA to try but haven't yet

tried a small batch 417 IPA by breckecnridge brewery last night...the tag talked it up with lots of different malts and lotsa hops, centennial, simcoe, fuggle...but it was just too malty and not hoppy enough for me.
i got some DIPA i just bottled that i think is gonna be real good. it came out at just 7.3% abv so eff. was a little low somewhere. probably in the mash.
got a pale ale in primary fermenter right now. gonna be good i think. i'm gonna add a dry hop to it though to get a little more aroma and hop flavor reinforcement. base malt is 2row, also .5lb of crystal 60 i think it was. hops are ahtanum and amarillo. grain bill didn't say the IBU's and i didn't calculate it but i'd guess it's around 40-50.
Darren, Big IPA's were a favorite of mine back in the day. Scroll down to the Double Crooked Tree IPA, this was my favorite dipa. If you can't find it let me know I'll send you a care package marked bike parts ;>). Enjoy the day, Frank
emptiness is till fullness comes
It comes in 6, 8 or 10 varieties. 10 is the best, IMO.
It's like Maudite, but better. A strong brown Belgian, like the soiled-chamois Boonen at the end of the '07 Paris Roubaix.
Bicycling's list is pretty good, but like DarrenCT, I also prefer the strong ales year 'round.
local brewery made a 1000-gallon batch just for our 12-hour race. there's a connection. i'll have to look for pics. 3-5 hour 11-mile laps is what conditions brought and i stayed home...didn't want to drink all the racers' beer before they finished.
aye hops are good, but can be overdone for my tastes. never met a belgian beer i didn't like. give me malt!
ft. collins Chocolate Stout = my new fave.
here is the correction ale. like an american ale or 1.5....

also this one is pretty good too, but i do prefer the clean bright flavor and the hop profile of the correction ale the most lately.

Every bottle I've tried from these guys has been top-notch and they are relatively cheap too.
Their Unearthly-IPA is awesome.
My latest favorite is Bear Republic's Hop Rod Rye. Generally I'm not a rye fan, but this beer does it for me.
Do you live close to Marshall? I rode for Dark Horse the year I had a side of broken ribs (made for a season of more beer drinking than racing). Founders for a few after that. What am I doing on a non-beer team these days????? Michigan mtb racing seems to mean fine beer. Double Crooked is a good one. Founder's IPA is mighty fine too.

I'm about 200 miles west of Chicago on I80, IA-IL border. Friend of mine was a manager at a liquor shop and a beer lover. He'd get his suppliers to sample some and then make orders. Dark Horse is/was a favorite of mine, one the few beers I miss. I don't miss the 30lbs I lost since I quit drinking though so it's all good. Founders Devil Dancer is a great IPA as well.

This is my favorite post ride recovery drink:
