    Default ToC Random Bits

This race is stupid fooking hard.
    10k
    10k
    10k
    16k!

    Horner is done.
Wife says Zabriskie is emaciated, but he ain't gonna win, Big Bear and Baldy will make sure of that.
    Jens.
    Race is wide open.

Neil Stephens/GreenEdge keep it loose, little shit McEwen has seen the autobus for decades now and guts another one out:

I've taped the TOC on the DVR in HD so I can fast forward over the 20minutes of commercials each hour, but try as I might, I just cannot watch the TOC. I just find it so incredibly boring. I don't know why but it reminds me of miles and miles of unchanging interstate. I even feel sorry for Phil and Paul. You can tell their hearts aren't into it.

I don't have the same problem with the Giro. Even if it is a flat stage and all I understand watching it on RAI is 'Mamma Mia, Cavendish, Mamma Mia'
(It was the crash where a rider bunny hopped Cav)

For 2013, TOC should shorten the stages and change the route layout to allow for some drama.

Didn't see the coverage but Robert Geesink rode a very strong TT there. Van Garderen or Geesink for the title.
Feel bad for Horner. What happened there?

Geesink I think will take it. He has had a mega season and seems to be on a tear- Oman, TA and he had a good Amstel.
Horner will come out swinging hard and will win a stage, but 2.50 is mega wide gap.

TOC- I dig it but it isnt the Giro. The Giro is a show day in-day out.

Is it possible for Jens to actually take this thing? Just a thought.

These first 4 stages are all death marches, but it'll get better from now on. Still, our topography is too epic, sprawling, suburban, and dry with no distinguishing historical landmarks to compare favorably with the big guns.
The organizers wanted $150k out of little Solvang, where the tt usually is, and there are no short, steep separation finishes (let alone Assisis) set in towns with services so it increasingly is a money game and a slog between the hosts. Still, just a silly set of stages so far.

Just give me back my SFGP with literally a thousand little shops and restos dotted along the course in a walkable carless loop with great vistas.

    true this

the SFGP was the first pro race I took my daughter too - I slogged her up fillmore in her stroller (my MIL lives a block away). That race was simply the best - by lap 7 even the pros were zig-zagging on the third stairstep of fillmore.

as for the ToC...hey bob roll wears Rapha!

    SFGP: YESOHMYGODYESPLEASEBRINGITBACK.

DZ's on form for USPRO TT...Next Saturday might be a bit demoralizing.

Methinks Utah this year is going to be a more demanding course than ToC.

Yathink? Big Bear is like 17k climbing, making it all the stages so far, except for the tt, 10k+. Of course I'm just sitting on my ass typing this and the guys will decide how hard to make it. Too bad CC didn't get an invite tho.

Gesink had a strong ride, but you must be thinking of 2011. He has not done much this season, which is to be expected since he has been recovering from a broken leg suffered at the end of last season.

Beat the hell out of Bakersfield though. Give me 65 degrees over 95 degrees anytime. Will be interesting to see if today impacts the GC. Big climbing but a lot of road between the last KOM and the finish. Lots of guys tired though.

Bakersfield, the world's foremost mfg. of dust.

Perfect day for a French kid to take a 115 mile flyer with 19k climbing. Jesus.

yea, liek a handful of buildins west towards the filbert/steiner corner. how great is that? visit mother inlaw, hang with family, get tired, walk up to city cycle or rapha cc to watch some racing and have a nice coffee. even better when bike nut was still in business

Today was a tough one for sure. All the boys were knackered. One gets the impression that the riding is not full gas when a big group finishes together on a climbing day. That ain't necessarily the case. Look for a lot of top 20 guys on the attack tomorrow. Garmin will have their hands full. Speaking oh Garmin, JV got his front quarter panel spanked by the Green Edge car. Gossip is JV was driving like crap and squeezing some riders in the descent corners. Green Edge went to hand JV a Valium and just got an earful. Not appreciating that, JV found himself on the receiving end of some NASCAR action.
