Default Screw it...for that price I'll keep the damn thing.

I'm not one to think twice about selling a frame once the decision has been made to move on. That being said, I offered up a SS Speedvagen this fall when my second daughter was born. I figured I wouldn't get to ride it much and definitely would be too out of shape to race without any bail out gears.

Lots of tire kicking, one commitment that backed out weeks later because of financial difficulties (totally understandable)...and then came the lowball offers. WTF people? I'm better off keeping the thing and repurposing it as a totally over the top fixed gear. I'm more inclined to donate a super nice frame to an enthusiastic kid or hang it as wall art before giving it away to a vulture for a few hundred bucks. That being said, check out my $4k winter fixed gear commuter.

I see that pegoretti for $1100 in the classifieds as a perfect example of an instance in which you're better off keeping the bike instead of letting it go for so cheap.
Anyone else run into the same thing with a bike/frame?
    Post a pic.

even though it's the un-holy wasteland in many ways, you might reach more potential takers for that beauty and realize more of it's potential value if you put it on fleabay. Cast a wider net and all that.

I've sold two bikes. Regretted selling both. Never regretted keeping the ones I own.

To me, they hold too many memories - most of which are great memories.

Sometimes, the effort and headaches involved in trying to sell some things are just not worth the effort. This definitely sounds like a situation in which you should just keep it as long as you can afford to. While you will get a wider audience on eBay, you will also get a lot more tire kicking.

I think the Peg in the classifieds is like 14 years old. Anyway, the market is the market and the market for high zoot SS bikes is pretty thin. If your bike had braze-ons and gear drop outs you would have sold it in 5 minutes. I have a pristine Serotta Atanta frame fork in size 54 that I'd probably get $600 for (if lucky). It's in a box until it fits one of my kids.

I get why it didn't sell and have no hard feelings. Feel very much like SteveP about "the market" and thought it might be fun as a thread.

It's not just bikes... Pretty much anything. I've come to the conclusion that by the time I get around to selling something, I don't give a rat's ass how much I get for it so long as it pays the shipping.

The "market" is interesting. Used Rapha? 95% of retail if it's in good shape. Weird. I've sold used high end parts (Super Record) for very high prices. There are tons of folks just on the cusp of being able to afford the good stuff, and anything off retail is sometimes enough for them to grab it. Some stuff you can literally "rent" for a season and get rid of it for a great price. Non-standard frames are tough, though.

Your bike, my bike and the Peg you speak of, along with everything else,
is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It's really that simple. Just because you think it's worth is x, doesn't mean it isn't 3000-x.

As someone else said; The market is the market.

I deal with it all the time with watches and things.
That's how I make my living. At times the market will change very quickly,
then I have problems. Profit out the window. I take the beating and try to learn from it.

Your bike is very nice. I'm sure, or almost sure that if you wait long enough,
someone would want it for somewhere near the price you want.
No telling how long that may be. 1 year or 5 years?

Anyway, good luck and I hope you keep on enjoying your bike!

Assuming it's a custom made frame, why on earth do you think anyone else is going to pay anything close to your price on it when it wasn't made for them?

A good part of what a custom framebuilder is selling is the experience of having something built for you and the interaction this involves. The second purchaser doesn't get any of that.

I think there are a lot of listings for rather fabulous pairs of wheels lately in the classifieds. I'm surprised they aren't going more quickly, but it is that time of year when things get cold and locked in, at least up here.

But what I really want to know is why is pucci's rep power 22, and mine 8? That must be wrong.

Rep power is age divided by 5.

That's because I'm all the way across the ocean, and oversized parcels just cost too much to ship. Otherwise, I'd have bought many, many pairs of wheels... and frames ;-)

I had the same question, and was told that it is a score based on how many times people have clicked the little six-pointed star on the lower left-hand side of your posts.
