Default RIP Mr. Schorr - thank you.

Damn, what a life. inspiring. we lost one of the men who saw our century pass, and told us what he saw in a straight, honest manner for the common man. Thank You. from an NPR interview last year, on the only song he could sing from memory: HANSEN: Really?

    SCHORR: Yeah.

    HANSEN: Which one?

SCHORR: (Singing) Once I built a railroad, made it run, made it race against time. Once I built a railroad, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime? Once I built a tower to the sun, brick and water and lime. Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime? Once in khaki suits, gee, you look swell filled with that Yankee Doodleyum(ph). Half a million boots went sluggin' through hell. And I was the kid with a drum. Say, don't you remember? They called me Al, it was Al all the time. Say, don't you remember, I'm your pal. Brother, can you spare a dime?

    That was Depression.

He made Nixon's enemy list, I consider him a patriot. This brings up a question about what we all listen to in the shop. I have been listening to NPR daily for 10+ years.
Sometimes it makes me so pissed or depressed I have to turn it off, but its better by far than the advertisment laden right wing nut jobs. I tell ya Wraslin' is real.

This is the sole reason that I bought XM/Sirius for my squad car, where 8.5 hours a day the radio is my only company. Living in a rural area my choices were limited to Right Wingnut talk radio, Uber Reglious Right Wingnut talk radio or Country Music.... Having 3 channels of NPR programming has saved my sanity more than once.

A few years ago a friend of mine won a Wait Wait don't tell me prize of Daniel Schorr as her voice message. It was really cool. I wonder if she archived it.

Are you sure about that. Sure it wasn't Carl Kasell?

Schorr was 93 when he died and that cat was absolutely the tits right up to the end. I sure as hell hope that if I see 93 that I am as on the ball as he was. He was one of Murrow's Boys for God's sake. The amount that man saw in his lifetime is staggering.

In my opinion, behind Tim Russert, Schorr's death was probably the biggest loss in recent journalism.

I enjoyed his commentaries for many years, especially on long drives/commutes through the Southwest. Thank you Mr. Schorr.

I always looked forward to the "week in review" talks he did on weekend addition. He was one of the great ones. He got booted from CBS for doing the right thing (telling the truth) and booted from CNN for doing the right thing (protecting sources) NPR knew what they had, and kept him. Farewell.
