Default Riding when its wet and cold

Hell no! I prefer to sit on the couch with a cup of coffee and a laptop or a good book. And yet often I have to torment myself by looking at pictures of an event I saw on television as a kid:

I'll never be so awesome as that guy. or so cold I guess

I actually don't mind riding in the wet & cold now and again.Way better than 96 degrees and humid and besides, there's usually less traffic to contend with so I have the roads pretty much to myself.

In the PNW, you use full fenders with extended mud flaps. The mudflap on the front fender should almost touch the ground and the rear one about half that long since it's for the guy riding behind you. Keeping water spray from your front wheel out of your shoes is the most important thing.
    I heart brown bikes.

    Darth Vader riding a bicycle?

+1 for riding in the rain. Cold and wet make a good combo. I just hate the bike maintenance/cleaning after and the crazy drivers during.

I say cold and wet call for hot cocoa, a blanket and the whole family draped around me on the couch ;)

21 guys made it to the finish line that day... I also think Hinault never recovered the feeling in one or two of his fingers too.

You said riding, yet posted one of the most awesome races on the calendar.
Riding in the cold, wet is not racing in the cold wet.
When racing in those type of.conditions I totally zone out on the weather and just get after the task at hand.
Riding, I think about everything, but the ride. Including that hot chocolate!

i don't mind getting soaked, but my bikes hate me after a couple weeks of this, even with a dry garage and liberal application of proper lubes

....is a way of life from now until April in the PNW (although it really isn't that "cold" if you are dressed right)

This is only true if you do not have to stay in bed for 1 week with pneumonia after that ;-)

If you're talking racing, then I did a bunch of early and late season races when I was stationed in South Carolina. The races were in the upstate in Greenville, Spartanburg, Rock Hill, etc. I've raced with my number pinned to a jacket in rainy 40 degree weather. I used to think they were fun, as much mental as physical, waiting for someone to crack or seeing if you could take off and who would follow. The toughest part was that it was the early to mid 90's so Powerbars were the main choice. Powerbars and cold don't go together very well. I'd stick the bar down in my bibs to warm it up. Race weekends were tough too, a wet road race on saturday meant you stuff was wet for the sunday crit.

illustrating to all the emBRO's that THIS is when you use embro.
As hard as it was raining off and on, knee/leg warmer are useless.
