Default Record 10 Rear Derailleur Question

I've had an annoying noise crop up in the drive train.
When I put some power to the pedals at times there's a loud ping.
I finally think I track it down and wanted to see if others have experienced and fixed this issue.
It appears the derailleur body wallows around the pivot bolt.
There's a lot of play. When you adjust everything in the stand everything is
fine but under pressure the derailleur body shifts and the chain hits the next sprocket and there a loud ping like the beginning of a shift.

I have one other freind that had a similar issue.
    Anyone else?
Is there a fix or time for a new one?

I'm not sure the derailleur is the cause of the noise.

The derailleur is not loaded under pedal force,
the chain is tensioned between the crank and the cassette cog.
If the noise is coming from the back, it's more likely the freehub pawls
inside the body, or the chain on the cassette teeth.

How worn are the cogs? Chain and cogs the same age?
Have you lubed the freehub recently?

Good questions. My first thoughts too.
    Everything lubed.
Happens on three different sets of wheels. Three fairly new cassettes.
It has a TON of play around the hanger bolt.
My medium cage has very little play.
I can see the chain hit the next spocket above the rear pulley wheel when it happens.
Maybe the pulley teeth/tooth is shot and misguiding the chain?

    That's quite possible.

If the pulleys are shot, and the pivots are worn,
you may as well try out a new derailleur.

    Thanks Grant.
    I'll try the pulleys first.
    Then new RD.
It's got a lot of miles on it. Maybe the pivot bushing is shot.

i've got a record der. that has alot of play at the pivot on the hanger bolt...
also, there is play at the second pivot bolt in the middle of the cage. it's spring loaded so if i squeeze it there it will move in a few mm and back out.
been wondering lately if that is adjustable or if it's supposed to be that way.
got a new centaur der. that has no play at all right there.

Oil the pivot points and all axes of the rear derailleur. It'll shift better. Also, put a drop of light oil on the carriers of the cassette. If it is a Chorus or Record or Centaur, the cogs are on riveted carriers. They have been known to make noise.

Finally, chainring bolts also can make noise.

And if all else fails, (like tonight on the Founders ride in GRR), check the tightness of the BB. Mine on my Look has been known to loosen and creak.

    Case Closed!
    I caught it today.
I have a new chain and tried a link from Lickton's (Super link?).
Also I'm running cartridge pulleys so no play in top pulley.
Well at certain times the link starts to ride up the inner or outer cog and then snap down into place. It is close but maybe a little too wide.
So back to standard Campagnolo fixxed pin.

Thanks to all that chimed in.
