Hi everybody,
I haven't posted a lot over on this side of the hall, but I can't keep quiet about something so near and dear.
So, some of you may know, and some of you may not, but this year USA Cycling split the timed events and mass start races between two different tracks on opposite coasts of the country. For guys like me who have a full time job, and barely have enough time to train and race as it is, this means only getting to race a few events. I know that there are TONS of other working class (or otherwise engaged) self-supported racers who would benefit from having the races all in the same location at the same event.
To quote Jon Fraley (currently one of the fastest US sprinters, coach, all around nice guy, and author of the petition):
"Splitting US Elite Track Nationals is the worst thing possible for an event that is already difficult to attend and prepare for. Pick one location and let that track have their chance to host a quality event - the ENTIRE National Championships Event. Rock Hill is receiving half of an event; this is not fair for a new track which was promised a National Championships to showcase. It is also likely that riders will attend and only race one half of the National Championships, based on what half of the country they reside - or possibly opt out of attending entirely.
For riders seeking the talent pool have an open door policy to come to LA and attempt a time standard by appointment. Having a relatively close official time at your home track should warrant this appointment.
The first US Nationals date is also within the same week as Masters Nationals and forces riders to choice one event."
Even if you don't race, but like to watch racing, or even just know a racer, please sign this petition to help out the underdog that is the US track racing community!
Cheers!
-Tyler
