Before news reached us that our great pal Dario Pegoretti had fallen ill we were in discussions to bring forward a bike to commemorate Andy Hampsten's 20th anniversary as the only American to have won the Giro d'Italia. After Dario fell ill, the project had to be abandoned though some will remember we had one example of the bike. Here is that bike, now rebuilt with SRAM and a few details. As Steve said awhile ago, soon to be seen at a Ramble near you, that is, if our CyclesTournesol Finger Lakes Ramble is on your docket. These are just preliminary photos; I will take more. I've put a few full size pictures on flickr. Look here: http://flickr.com/photos/dbrk/
A few details:
*Thanks to Flux and Svelte Cycles for the DT Mon Chasseral wheelset and Vredestein TriComp tires. The service from Svelte is fantastic and the prices are as good or better than any atmo. An added plus is that we get to support our pro and pal. Look here: http://www.sveltecycles.com/servlet/StoreFront and if you don't see what you want, ask because Flux answers emails promptly and gets what you ask for right.
*I opted for a mix of Red and Force SRAM bits 'cause I've made the leapmo. Stuff works great. Campagnolo Chorus brakes, Ritchey bars and stem (classics), TA Zephyr crankset with Phil BB ('cause you might as well have the best)
*I prefer cotton tape for a more positive feel. This is the Japanese Viva.
*The mint pearl white is hard to describe but it's one of the most beautiful colors I've ever seen.
*No, this design is not available again, as far as I know. I will look into that but methinks it's just one of a kind.
I am lucky enough to have seen this bike in person at it's last home, Dr, Brooks you must have some serious stuff on Steve to get him to give this one up! As you stated, the paint must be seen to be appreciated, but your pics are the best I've seen yet that show off the green/pink tint in the clear coat.
I hope you all have a great time at the Ramble. I am going to be back in the states during the ride, but will unfortunately be tied up in sim training in Savannah on 8-10 August, so another missed Ramble for me. Maybe I'll make the next one, or try to host a Belgian Ramble on the off years! Do you think CT would cover the airfare for the attendees ;)?
Wow. I knew it would be good, but. . . love the colors, love the steel fork. You know it rides like a steel Peg, which is to say magnificently. Killer.
Steve gave that up?! Wow-- and having ridden with Steve and crew at Tour de Blast last year, I can say it is indeed even more beautiful to behold in person. Goobery amazing details close up.
I think I have some I'm-not-really-taking-a-pic-of-your-bike pictures somewheres.
Good to see it again, and that its stayed in the familia.
the green tape is genius, as are the DT Swiss wheels - i don't think there's a bad way to build that bike.
the frame, as far as i can tell, is a Duende rear (SS, CS, ST) combined with Pegorichie TT and DT, the fork is probably similar to a Luigino but using a Sachs crown. the ride is perfect.
i swiped the idea for my new Cinghiale Pro, welded by IF - it too rides great.
today's new bike pour moi: beige aluminum Tournesol, green tires, shiny fenders, SRAM Red, leather tape and saddle. pix soon.
