Default NY Times Article on Bike Commuters - Christian

"Honey, there's an article in the New York Times about some guy with a Zanconato. Says he rides from Westchester to downtown."

"Sounds like Christian. What else did they say?"

"Well, they say he used to be a race car driver."

    "Yeah, that's Christian."

    Yo Christian, dish.

Kickass article! I've admired that bike on the salon.

The end part about the lady drying her clothes on her file cabinet made me laugh. I keep my bottom credenza/whatever drawer empty and dry my cycling tops over the file dividers in there. My boss didn't blink when I asked for more storage space in the shared area between the offices.

Haha, not much to say really. I was posting on a local email list with someone else about commuting (Scott, who commutes from Tarrytown) and the writer dropped me a note and asked if she could ride with me one morning, so I agreed.

To be fair, it's not quite as it sounds in the article, like it's 2x per week, 52 weeks a year. It's more a way for me to get some base mileage easily. And I don't think I've ever done it both ways in one day - I ride in Mondays, home Tuesdays, and so on, and take the train the opposite leg. Basically, I like to ride my bike, and sometimes I go to work on it. Pretty much like half the salon. (I think of robin3mj as a commuter - each and every day; I just ride my bike to work when I feel like it!)

I did specifically ride the Zanconato in the hope that Mike gets a few hits from the article. I love that bike.

I should also add that the NY Bikes in Buildings law and the locked indoor parking my employer provides is what makes this possible. Secure parking for bikes makes a huge difference.

Default NY Times Article on Bike Commuters

Today's NYT has an article on bike commuting to NYC that may be of some interest to VSaloners:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/27/ny....html?hpw&_r=0

These guys have my respect. I think Christian posts here.

Great story! I can really see how more bike commuters creates more access which creates more commuters. Of course, it's taken a lot of hard work to make it happen.

Good job. Seems like the writer was a cyclist too. And great product placement for Mr. Zanc. I skimmed the article while waiting for the espresso machine to warm up, and Zanconato popped right out. Funny how that happens to the bicycle obsessed.

It also looks like your beloved Assos Fugu Helm is sold out all over town and now being bid up on ebay.

40 miles in 10 degree weather? My hands and feet hurt just thinking about it.

Pogies for your handlebars and Lake MXZ's work great. I commuted this morning (and all week) in 19 degrees with no gloves.

    Cool article and nice bike!

    and good for you, christian.
i'm more of a mild weather commuter, but you've motivated me to give it a run this winter.

Christian could you tell more about your gig racing cars - I haven't seen this come up before - short and sweet is fine or a link if this has been previously discussed.
