    Default new frame experience

in april i picked up my new "steve rex" frameset. there are some folks that need a custom frameset and i qualify. because of my back problems( rotated scoliosis), over the years, my torso has shortened. i have gone from 5'11" to 5'9''. my saddle height has stayed the same, 77.5cm( spindle to top of saddle). however, i have a very short reach. my current bike is st 60ctc and tt 56.5 ctc. it works for me. but the real gravy for me is the ride.
steve used superlight true temper main tubes and light dedaccai stays. slightly, longish stays allows for a very stable ride. for appearance, he used sachs fancy lugs and polished the head tube lugs( i sweat a lot ). and for extra, the frame is set up for long reach (old standard) brakes. my normal tire wheel combo is: hed bastognes with 23mm pro3's. however, i can, easily fit jack browns for dirt roads. with a brooks saddle and a steel fork, the bike still weighs under 20lbs.
it just seems so simple, but modern manufacturers will rarely build a frame built for multi-purpose and never for my necessary dimensions. thank god for these truly, skilled artisans.
    sincerely, don compton

That Steve is a good one for sure Don. Congrats on the bike you certainly will make good use of it.

Maybe we need a subforum called "Cicli Confidental".

You see, this is why custom builders are in demand. Not only got the fit right, but hit all the functional considerations on the head. Congratulations to both you and Steve.

At the finish area of the NYC Tri a couple weeks back, I passed by a guy pushing a gorgeous, deep blue, fillet brazed Steve Rex about three times.

The first time we passed, I geeked out at the brazing and said to him "Nice Steve Rex." He said nothing in response, and looked at me as if to say, "who the hell is this bike perv?"

Each subsequent time we passed, I disregarded him, took a step in his direction, and stared long and deeply at the beautiful joints. Really creeped the guy out.

Damn nice frames that that price point.
