Default Man and Superman - New Yorker article on doping

I found this a fascinating read comparing natural advantages vs. the doping of Armstrong, Hamilton, and all other EPO users.

Malcolm Gladwell: Do Genetic Advantages Make Sports Unfair? : The New Yorker

Sorry if it has already been posted - I searched but couldn't find it.

Gladwell's arguments are disengenuous, and he knows it, and I think it comes across in the article. He doesn't even believe them himself, he's just trying to be provocative.

He makes a point. But bottom line for Armstrong et al is that they cheated, and denied doing it. For years.

Poor Lance, I never saw him complain that he was blessed genetically with a VO2 Max in the top 1% of humans. Add in the unfortunate loss of body mass from all the chemo and then add in the drugs to enable him to push redline all the time, and then recover overnight. There wasn't much left to chance.
