Default Kelly take-offs - any opinions?

Anyone tried using Kelly Take-Offs in order to put DT shifters up near your brake levers?

I’ve got about 10K miles on a Sora (triple) drivetrain that’s becoming tougher and tougher to keep tuned, and am thinking that it might be time to bring the bike up to 10speed, enabling easier wheels swaps between my 2 bikes.

The bike is a Kona Jake, kept mainly in the middle ring, and used largely for commuting and riding in the rain.
I’m wondering how much of a disadvantage the shifting would be using the Kelly mounts vs. just saving up some more cash and buying STI levers.

I had them on a commuter bike a couple of years ago and I liked them. They worked fine, were unique, and at the time cheaper than STI levers. Friction shifting as a bonus. Wish I would have kept them when I sold the bike.

    Thanks Ben.
I'm thinking they'll allow me good flexibility going forwards, in that I don't have to lock myself into a double or triple at the moment, since the friction shifting is an option.

For those wondering, the takeoffs are available on eBay occasionally. I had snagged a pair a while back to keep in my hip pocket.
