Default It's hot, let me help

1 part 100% agave tequila [Blanco for me]

1 part REAL lime juice [no bar mix]

1 part orange base liquior-- Tripple Sec, Grand marnier, Blue Curacao [my fav], etc.

Shake the hell out of it over ice.

Drink in pint glass [with salt if that's you thing].

Hear me now, thank me later.

No need for three parts (or ice).

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago (in Miami) and had a supped up Dark & Stormy (but with the groom's mother's rum made in the factory she runs in Guatemala) and I think it had mint and bitters in it. It was DAMN tasty and I drank many that night. I've tried to replicate it a few times and failed. I'll try again soon. Just wanted to say that I failed. It feels good after 2 DFH 90 mins and a glass of Dewer's 12.

Dark & Stormy is tasty, but the finished product can vary depending on the rum and the ginger beer that you use. Some will tell you that you have to use the Gosling's Dark rum. Experiment with the ingredients some, you'll find a mix that you like.

I wouldn't drink that since I simply cannot drink tequila, but it does sound refreshing.

    Good point Wade!

I guess I'm eager for the cooler weather to get here and thinking about anejo may bring it here sooner.

Try it again. The cheap stuff in college ruined Tequila for me. After a 10 year hiatus, I tried the good stuff. Bold new world.

This. I had a perfect unbroken streak of immediately throwing up any tequila that entered my body. Then I drank Patron.

I mean, I still throw up, but now it's because of volume instead of quality.

But please don't use it to make margaritas.

Yeah, agreed, college is definitely what did it. Ever since then, I get that watery pre-vomit sensation in my mouth if I catch even the slightest scent of tequila.

That said, I haven't tried any of the really good stuff.

Do as the locals do. Barritt's Ginger Beer and Gosling's Dark. I mix about 1:1. Regatta is a suitable substitute, and has the advantage of being made with cane sugar, but it is extremely pricey (I think we pay $7 for a 4-pack in NJ). We get Barritt's shipped in from Boston - haven't found a good supplier locally yet.

The Gosling's brand used to just be relabeled Barritt's product, but that's no longer the case. Now Gosling's Ginger Beer is being made by Polar. Don't get me wrong - the Gosling's/Polar stuff will make a nice Dark & Stormy, but Barritt's or Regatta will REALLY push it over the top.

Its not a dark and stormy without goslings, just ask any yacht club bar tender. and they are damn tasty, i think i want one right now even though its 9am and cloudy outside

I have made the D&S, but use the Maui Dark rum. It is made from molasses from the sugar mill and is tasty. Reasonable priced (for me) as well. One thing you may want to try on the ginger beer is to mix some ginger syrup and water in a seltzer maker. Look for ginger syrup @ the natural foods store. Mind you, I have not tried this.

yes! i drank the cheap tequilas and got schnookered and barfed and well, if schnookered and barfed stopped me from each variation of akkyhol i ever got in that condition whilst consuming, then.

    i'd be a sober mofo.

good tequila is not just any 100% agave tequila, but that _is_ the jumping off point.

and it is sipped, not slammed. atmo, ymmv, nttawwt.

Last night ... I ... curator of fine IPAs ... chugged two (2) Corona's. It was hot. I was sweating. They filled my belly. I repented and drank a DFH 60 min later in the evening.
