You beat me to it. I think they would be tied for second on gc, because they would even be following each other's splits so closely during the time trials, that the risk of standing up to sprint and gain seconds at the end would be seen as too big of a risk.

Yes, Contador would be in the lead and we wouldn't be subjected to watching Cadel ride defensively. No, wait, we've already seen that.

Also, with Contador at the race, there would be another rider for Ricco to insult (by the way, has Phil called him "Ricco Riccardo" yet?? :D )
