FYI, there are 181 photos of Richie's fork being made...and it don't look done yet...its a good read...I recommend it. I really don't know how someone can take so many pcitures of the same thing, yet still hold your attention...

Garro, I saw on your website that you offer un-filed frames. This may be a Smoked Out question, but its pertinent now...what percentage of your customers take you up on this? It is just astonishing how clean those look. Well done.

Anthony, that flat bar made me want to go for a ride. Looks sweet.

    Craig,

Real nice brazing on that fork. Good heat control; no burning. You can definitely see an improvement from your earlier work...which is the goal, eh?

I did- didn't really change the position I was using, but its a bit easier to set up. Works great for the single chain line applications (this bike will be a single speed). That was a near record time bike for me!

Alliance, beautiful stuff. I have the same "motivational" picture in my office. I keep it right as you come in so folks notice it. Awesome.

Alliance Eric - Dude, you better stop getting so good so fast! Carl must be literally burying you in fertilizer to have your skills ramp up like that. Seriously, WTF?

Carl, can I come apprentice for a while?

Nobody gets to mooch off Carl but me. Do you know what kind of money I gotta pay that guy a month? The answer would frighten most. That being said, I do like the Erik and Carl picture Craig posted, For future reference, Carl is much dorkyer(not sure if that's a word? nope I checked, it's not ) looking.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about the over taking of Strong Frames. As I like to say, Carlo make'a nice bike! (that's me typing in a Italian accent, which is actually pretty hard)

    OK I'll stop now..........

    Default New Bike

Hey all- Here's the link to my Flicker shots of the new bike. As I mentioned before it has been a 4 year project. Now I've had a chance to do a 35 mile ride and remain convinced I hit the steering geometry on the head of the nail. 72.5* HT, 4.3cm rake, 6.05cm trail. The TT and DT are OX Plat 28.6. ST is a .9,.6,1.2(?). Some SS bits, HJ drops and others hand made. My usual odd braze on placements. The bag's rack is going to be replaced over the winter to increase the tire to bag clearance.

    Stewart #630 & 370 - a set on Flickr

Some background. These two frames were started in winter 2007 as replacements for my then wife and my Sunday club bikes. Her old bike was a 24"x700c Terryokee that while rode well wasn't as nice as a 650c bike I had built for a close friend. My old bike was a classic 700c sew upped ride from 1987. I never liked the handling, it was very touchy and had a good case of the speed wobbles. The two new frames were to have the same aesthetic details and "updated" geometry. As was my fashion I would do the first step on hers then mine, then the second on hers then mine. I got maybe 7/8 of the way through hers when she had her fatal accident. The next year and some was spent doing little more then finding myself before I got back to frame work. First the shop was expanded and improved, then I began the final steps. I did all but a couple of braze ones on her frame then moved on to completing mine. Hers is still in the raw, waiting the right situation to finalize and paint. (and I might have that figured out, we'll see how we go over this summer!)

Enjoy the shots. They're not a full step by step record, more of details that I felt like capturing along the process. I have other Flicker sets that are more step by step if that's what you want to see. Please fell free to ask any questions. Andy.

    Matt/Nate/Signal

Way cool building a bike for an NBA dude. I heard another builder/company that's on this Forum is building a frame for the Celtics' Ray Allen. I'd say NBA players are a pretty good match for custom handbuilt frames.

Thanks! we are super stoked to put this one together. Nate and I have spend many evenings making brass dust while listening to a Blazer game. So it's pretty exciting to think that the "Vanilla Gorilla" is going to be riding a Signal! Who is building the Allen bike? Maybe we are seeing the beginning of a movement: of NBA stars and bespoke bikes? Big ol' diamond studded earrings are so 2006!

We have the Vanilla Godzilla: Brian Scalabrine. I heard in a radio interview he actually rides a lot, frequently does 50 and 100 mile rides.

What does the machine justification logic look like when you're a tool junkie/operator?

Renishaw = good stuff, we here hate it when we break it. The tool setters most of all.
