i have already opined on this via a letter to the editor.
if you read velonews, what are your thoughts on this atmo -
I suspect that Pelkey's feelings towards VeloNews are accurately represented by Cavendish's pose.
once they were purchased, I knew it would only be a matter of time before things went downhill. Never fails. I may not renew my subscription.
Stay classy, VeloNews.
(Dropped my subscription when they moved from newsprint to glossy.)
'He's not the Messiah..... he's a very naughty boy!'
Monty Python's 'Life of Brian'
I don't see what the big deal is. It's all just part of his public persona. I don't think he's anything like as much of a ratbag as some other Pros.
Is this about the appendage or the contents of the article?
"Old and standing in the way of progress"
Maybe they'll show Pelkey's finger tomorrow.
At the time of writing Cav was acting out his innermost Grand Dame Diva and the "finger" would make his picture very hard to take.
I don't blame Cav for any of this.
I find Velonews very hard to take, mostly.
Didn't he get fined in a race for holding up two fingers? I guess it meant the same thing in another country. Maybe ths is just a continuance of his latest project 'Fingers Around The World'............ next up the 'thumb' followed a month later by the 'fore finger'.
My thought: wgas
Would it have made a difference had he used the British V instead?
Got some cash
Bought some wheels
Took it out
'Cross the fields
Hit a wall
But we're alright
This is wrong on several levels.
1) The photographer should have known better.
2) VeloNews should know better.
3) Cav ain't punk rock.
To ElvisMerckx's list, add:
4) He's wearing sponsor logos.

He conveys a really rebellious tough guy image riding around on a carbon fiber bicycle and wearing lycra clothing. Oh yes, all the while getting paid millions of bucks.
If he wants to flip the bird for publicity that's between him and his people. But he's not honoring the gesture. His hand isn't clenched. His finger isn't fully straightened. His veins aren't bulging. The finger is about anger. Do it RIGHT, for fcuk's sake.

It's a great article. Certainly the picture a reference to when Cav got fined with his two fingered salute.
I'm paraphrasing, but basically these sprinters are so hopped up on adreniline when they finish a race, it's like when you or I are almost hit by a car when bike commuting.
That anger and lashing-out is similar to what sprinters do EVERY RACE.
There's a whole bunch of junk in print mags that is stupid, this ranks pretty low to me.
The Pearl Izumi "Naked" campaign is way stupider.
Velonews is still a great magazine. The Nick Legan pieces are killer. Beautiful race pictures. What magazine beats it?
